Reading Time: 2 minutes
I don’t think I need to tell you how cool this watch is! When I first saw it, it was instant love… Perfect in every aspect! Forget about words like passion for the underwater world, first modern diver’s watch, technical achievements or new technical solutions (words used in the presentation from Blancpain Website for the Fifty Fathoms Collection). It’s a gorgeous piece of timekeeping and I am profoundly impressed by it.
The case is made of steel: 45 mm diameter, 15.5 mm thickness and 30 bars water resistance. The case is antimagnetic (cage protection on all sides) and has a lovely one way rotating bezel. The sapphire bezel’s shape is round, has arabic numerals for 15, 30 and 45 minutes (or seconds, depends on your interest) and makes a good view together with the dial. The steel crown features the BP logo. The watch is a pleasure to look at: central seconds with red tip, date window at 4:30 o’clock (fast change of date possible in both directions), applied arabic numerals for 12, 3, 6 and 9 and indices for the rest and, of course, luminescent sword-shaped hands. The watch strap is made from sail-canvas and looks and feels very sturdy and nice.
The beast powering this beauty is the in-house Caliber 1315, introduced in 2007, this caliber has an outstanding 120 hours of power reserve with 3 series-coupled mainspring barrels. Formed from 227 components with a Glucydur free sprung balance with gold regulation screws and 35 jewels, this beast has an entire list of finishes: bevelling, straight and circular graining, circular satin-brushing. Some of the jewels are quite big and make a nice contrast with the rest of the bridges and plates.
