Reading Time: < 1 minute
A few years ago Denis Giguet created for Harry Winston one of the most interesting watches I’ve ever seen: the Opus Eleven. The watch has no hands for showing the time: using 566 components, 155 jewels and 24 conical pinions – the hours are displayed by means of an original system made up of 24 placards, using a rotation speed regulation and a patented management system.
The minutes are shown using a 2 disks system: a jumping disk for the tens and a running disk for the units.
The 18k white gold case is composed of three overlapping cylinders with a sapphire crystal in between one main cylinder for the hours, one pavilion for the minutes at 2 o’clock and a pavilion for balance-wheel at 4 o’clock. The crystal used is an antireflective treated sapphire.
The finishes on this watch are extraordinary but classic for a such a high calibre movement. The watch has 48 hours of power reserve for a 21,600 vph beating heart and 30m water resistance.
I would Like to thank Harry Winston for the images, information and the video. More information about the Opus Eleven, together with the entire Opus Collection can be found on the Harry Winston Website.
