Movado Museum Classic

Reading Time: 2 minutes
A day at the races or a night at the Opera could be two of the occasions where you can impress yourself or the others with this incredible watch – Movado Museum Classic. Incredible is also the price – 595 Euro. What’s so incredible about a watch that costs so less? You might ask…
The Movado Museum Classic is not just a beautiful timepiece, it has a history and a heritage that not many watches and watch brands have, especially in this price range.
The story begins 70 years ago: in 1947, the American artist Nathan George Horwitt designed for Movado a watch who respected the credo of the Bauhaus Movement – “Simplicity, tastefulness, function” (in 1919, a group of international artists founded the Bauhaus school in which all arts would be brought together).
“We do not know time as a number sequence,” Horwitt said, “but by the position of the sun as the earth rotates”. Hence a solitary gold dot at 12 o’clock symbolising the sun at high noon; the moving hands suggesting the movement of the earth. – Movado Heritage

The name of the watch also has a beautiful story: in 1960, the Movado watch with Nathan George Horwitt‘s dial was selected by the Museum of Modern Art from New York as part of their permanent collection. Since then, the watch and his dial is recognised as the Museum Watch and, respectively, the Museum Dial.

Today, Movado Museum Watches are in prominent museums around the world, and the legendary single dot dial acclaimed for the purity of design unrivalled in the history of time-keeping and new explorations of it continue to distinguish a wide collection of singular Movado timepieces.  Movado Heritage

One of the modern reiterations of the 1947’s watch is the Movado Museum Classic Ref.0607060, a 40mm diameter watch with Swiss quartz movement.

The stainless steel case with rose gold PVD is simple and lovely with rounded and robust lugs and with a minimalistic crown. The case is covered on top with a sapphire crystal and the case back is stainless steel.
The dial is simple and pure: black with a PVD rose gold concave dot at 12 o’clock “to symbolise the Sun at high noon“, disturbed only by the “Swiss Movado Made” writings at 6 o’clock.
The Museum dial uses two Dauphine hands for hours and minutes of polished rose gold PVD steel. The simplicity of the dial and the case makes from  Ref.0607060 a gorgeous timepiece that can complete any collection, even if it’s a one piece collection.
The Museum Classic comes with a black calfskin leather strap and gold PVD pin buckle decorated with the Museum dot. The strap fits perfectly the entire look of the watch and raises the initial visual impact.
The Movado Museum Classic Ref.0607060 is a simple watch for a complicated taste. A great look, a nice feel and an unbeatable price. Are there other watches with an interesting history behind and so affordable? I hope there are, but this moment is for the Museum Watch.
I would like to thank Movado for the images and information.
