In the Westphalian city of Münster, Germany, there is a small watch manufacturer – MeisterSinger. They are best known for their single-hand watches: based on the idea of the very old watches with only one hand and antique solar watches.
From the MeisterSinger Collection, I like the most the Pangaea Day/Date. These watches have not only the charm of the single hand – the hour’s hand, they also have a more practical usability due to the day and date display.
My favourite one from the Pangaea Collection is the PDD908 with a sunburst blue dial. I really love the printed indexes and Roman numerals with the white paint. It’s a nice contrast and besides the added functionality of the day and date circles which fill the dial – is not heavy.
The sunburst blue dial has nice reflections in the light and the white hour’s hand makes it easy to read. Interesting is that the date ring turns clockwise and the day ring turns counterclockwise. What does that mean – a nice spectacle at the change of the day and the date.
An interesting fact to be mentioned about the Pangaea Collection is that It has won several prizes: the 2013 Red Dot Award, GOOD DESIGN award 2013 and German Design award in 2014.
This Pangaea Day Date collection features in total 4 dial colours: the sunburst blue PDD908 presented above, the white dial PDD901, the Ivory PDD903 and the sunburst Anthracite PDD907.
The white dial PDD901 has a blue hour hand and blue hour indexes. This combination is pleasant offering a nice contrast for the dial.
The Ivory PDD903 has the same combination of the blue hour hand with blue hour indexes and black Roman numerals and indexes but a warmer ivory colour dial. All the versions are beautiful and it’s only a matter of accessorising the watch with the rest of the outfit.
The “darkest” one from the collection, the anthracite dial PDD907, has a sunburst dark grey dial with white painted Roman numerals and indexes and a white hand. Despite the dial having a lot of information (day, date discs), the watch face is not crowded, it’s even balanced and pleasant.
A nice touch is the name of the collection, Pangaea, written in italic at the lower central position of the dial. The upper side is used for the MeisterSinger name and logo, together with a red triangle used as an indication of the day/date.
The entire Pangaea Collection has the same case: a 40 mm diameter stainless steel case with a width of 10.4mm. The case with 5bar water resistance has a domed sapphire glass on top and a stainless steel with 6 screwed fixed back case with a view to the movement. The beautiful steel crown has the MeisterSinger logo embossed.
The heart of this watch is modified ETA 2836-2 or Sellita SW220-1 that are basically the same movement (since ETA is restraining the use of its movement, the watch manufacturers have to use only Sellita, removing the possibility of a second reliable calibres supplier).
The automatic movement 11½´´´ (∅ 25,60 mm, height 5,05 mm) has 26 jewels, Incablock antishock system, a heart beating with 28800 vph (4 Hz) and a power reserve of 38 hours.
The Pangaea Day Date comes with a leather or steel milanaise strap. When you visit the site you can make a test how a strap will fit the watch, making easier the choice of the strap.
Please visit the MeisterSinger Website for more information. The watches can be seen in the Official Retailers Boutique. The online prices can be checked here: Chrono24, the release price was 1890 Euro (VAT included).
I would like to thank MeisterSinger for the images and information
