This is not yet another Reverso review and I have no new words to describe it, I just take my hat off and make a bow in front of one of the most iconic timepieces that ever existed – the mighty Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso.
The history of this timepiece roots in “British India, 1931. A group of British army officers challenged Jacques-David LeCoultre to design a watch able to withstand their games of Polo, the country’s most prestigious sport. It was this challenge that led to the creation of the Reverso watch. Its dial flips over and is thus concealed against the wearer’s wrist, allowing the watch to withstand all blows while losing nothing of its elegance. A watchmaking icon was born.” – the story of Reverso
“To mark the 85th anniversary of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso collection. The Watch Gallery and Jaeger-LeCoultre have collaborated to create an exclusive Reverso watch. This elegant timepiece showcases a stunning blue lacquered dial representing the colour of The Watch Gallery brand. The TWG exclusive Grande Reverso night and day model is powered by an Automatic calibre 967B movement. The stainless steel outer of the caseback is engraved with “Limited Series” & “xx/30” to correspond to the model number. Fitted with a blue alligator strap synonymous of The Watch Gallery brand DNA.” – Exclusive Reverso for Watch Gallery.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso Night & Day ref. Q380848L comes in steel, it has a gorgeous blue lacquered dial with guilloche centre and the classic Reverso Arabic numerals. At 6 o’clock is placed the 24 hours subdial. Lovely are the polished steel sword hands that make a nice contrast on the dial.
This timepiece has no seconds indication like the passing seconds are unimportant for the wearer. I consider the dial absolutely stunning. On the other hand, I don’t think I can find something not to like at this piece.
The blue beauty is powered by the calibre JLC967: a rectangular calibre that lacks centre seconds but has a 24-hour dial to show the day/night passing. This movement has 200 components of which 28 are jewels, it has a 4Hz beating heart (28800vph) and a power reserve of 42 hours.
Of course, the finishes are high grade – every surface has a type of Haute Horlogerie finish: perlage, Côtes de Genève, brushing and bevelled edges. This movement is a feast for a finishes hungry eye.
The Grande Reverso Night & Day satisfies completely my need of blue: the gorgeous blue dial in a steel case, the dark blue Alligator leather strap with JLC deployment buckle.
I find, despite the cold steel and dark blue dial and strap, this Night & Day a warm presence, a familiar feeling, a peaceful assurance. I think, knowing how robust and lovely this watch is, that it is a great option for every occasion, a daily watch that you can wear working at your vintage car and then wash your hands, put a suit and have a successful business dinner.
This 30 pieces limited series can be seen and bought only at The Watch Gallery or their Online Store for 8,300 GBP.
I would like to thank Jaeger-LeCoultre and The Watch Gallery for the images and information.
