Reading Time: 2 minutes
It needs 654 components to make this marvellous timepiece – the Sequential Two from Manufacture Contemporaine du Temps.
This watch is so beautiful that is hard for me to talk about it, not because of lack of inspiration but because there are so many things to tell and to show. Like a shy boy in front of a gorgeous woman that smiles.
The 44.6mm diameter case is crafted of bronze with a sapphire ring around the case band having a total height of 14.5mm and 43 constituents parts. Given the complexity of the movement, this watch is incredibly small, not for a small wrist, though. The 30m water resistant case is anti-magnetic and resistant to wear, to deformation as well as to corrosion by seawater due to an innovative surface treatment to stabilise the oxidation of bronze. A questioned popped out in my mind when I saw the white gold crown: – why is this crown not yellow gold?
On top, there is a cambered sapphire crystal with a double anti-reflective coating.
The black open dial, with bronze painted indexes and numerals, has a brushed finish with bevelled edges. The black and bronze minute hand is the only thing “classic” in this watch’s way of telling time. The hours are made of 4 modules composed of 5 triangular prisms which each turn at the change of the hour.
The sequential indication of the hour is associated with a central jumping disc to indicate the current hour. On this disc is placed the tag with Manufacture Contemporaine du Temps name on.
Powering this horological engineering piece of art is the MCT-S2.0 mechanical 18k gold micro-rotor movement. The 507 components caliber has 37.4mm diameter and a height of 10.75mm, 85 jewels, a heart beating with 2.5Hz / 18,000vph with traditional Breguet terminal curve, a patented system for accumulation of energy necessary for the changing time and an autonomy of 50 hours.
No need to say how gorgeous this movement is: excellently executed perlage on the main plate, the bridges are hand-chamfered and adorned with “Côtes de Genève”, the lovely screws used for the bridges are domed, the arch shape of the barrel with the name of the brand engraved.
Even the winding system with ball bearings and gold rotor with Manufacture Contemporaine du Temps logo is flawless executed.
This movement is visible through crystal made of sapphire with anti-reflective coating on the inside side.
