I always liked the Urwerk designs and I consider them beautiful as watches and innovative and extraordinary as pieces of machinery. This year, marking 20 years of the brand, Urwerk released something that shows a deep maturity in design and execution, that pays a tribute to a classic design – the Reverso, reinvented it and raised it to a higher level – the Urwerk UR-T8.
“We don’t try to bring out new versions of existing complicated mechanisms,” explains watchmaker Felix Baumgartner, co-founder of Urwerk. “Our watches are unique because they are all designed as original works, which makes them rare and priceless. Our main aim is to go beyond the traditional horizons of watchmaking.” The original styling of each Urwerk model is signed by chief designer Martin Frei, the company’s other co-founder. “I come from a background where creativeness has no limits. I am in no way prisoner of the traditional constraints of watchmaking, and I can, therefore, be freely inspired by my cultural heritage.” – Urwerk Website
The first version has a titanium and black PVD titanium case and the second version is only in black PVD titanium.
Technical Specifications UR -T8:
– Movement UR 8.01: self-winding uni-directional rotor connected to a spinning vane with a monometallic balance and flat spring beating at 4Hz or 28,800vph. The power reserve is 50 hours from a single barrel;
– Finishes: brushed, circular grained and diamond-cuts;
– Indications: satellite complication with rotating hour modules mounted on planetary gears
– Case: flip-over case in grade 5 titanium with dimensions of 60.23mm X 48.35mm X 20.02mm and a water resistance of 3 ATM.
I just can’t wait to see this transformer “in the flesh” and have fun with it. If till now you were not impressed by the Urwerk timepieces, I consider that now, with the UR-T8, there is no reason not to love them. The UR-T8 transformer design is my favourite “complication” of this year.
