During the SIHH 2019 days, the independent Louis Moinet launched two “fairytales” pieces (pun intended) celebrating 150 years of Jules’ Verne Around the Moon. Louis Moinet Moon is available in steel or in 18k gold. Besides the obvious appearance depicting the Moon’s surface, the Louis Moinet Moon watch contains a piece of genuine lunar meteorite. Nothing can bring the Moon closer to your hearth as wearing it on your wrist.
Review Louis Moinet Moon
As an avid fan of Jules’ Verne books and stories, I was immediately gravitating around the brand’s new Moon watch. I have read most of the Jules Verne books in the first half of the ’90s decade. As a naive kid, I was asking myself and my grandparents how the author managed to think about all the aspects implied in such an adventure. But if I learned something from these books is that the only limit my dreams have is me. I learned to never stop day-dreaming.
Back to our Moon piece today, here is the wrist roll video:
Louis Moinet’s Neo case
The Moon watch is available in steel and gold. The presented steel version has a diameter of 43.20 mm. The gold version is a bit bigger – 45.40 mm due to technological reasons (metallurgy and material resistance).
The complex-shaped case consists of an engraved caseband, open lugs, screws mounted bezel and caseback. The main decoration is a high polish. The lugs openings suffer an interior satin matt finish. The top bezel is adorned with a subtle finish.
The crown is gorgeous. The cut onion shape is highly decorated – low profile denture with a polished finish, an engraved logo with black filling. The crown has a good grip and facile handling.
The sumptuous case fits perfectly the Jules Vernesque theme. It combines the typical Louis Moinet flamboyant style with the magical writings of the French author.
Where imagination and reality met
The splendour and magic of the Louis Moinet Moon take place on the dial. Combining the ultra-modern design and the fascinating worlds of Jules’ Verne books seems impossible but not for a Louis Moinet timepiece.
A modern tech, the blued register serves as indexes. The background depicts the Gassendi, Tycho, and Cassini Moon’s craters, skilful manufactured in brass. On the left side, around 9 o’clock position, the large aperture reveals the beauty of the calibre LM45 and the escapement. Above the aperture floats the small seconds sub-dial. Inside of the 3 o’clock capsule is placed a piece of real lunar meteorite.
The time indication is done with the brand’s signature open-worked Louis Moinet hands. In addition to the hour markers register, a rail track is printed on the inclined inner bezel to serve as minutes’ indication.
The Louis Moinet logo is subtly placed at 6 o’clock under the central point.
Louis Moinet Calibre LM45
The independent brand fits in the Moon watch the Calibre LM45. The in-house calibre is visible through the exhibition caseback. The movement is open-worked on every possible surface. The apertures reveal small decorative element or other components. The finishes are well executed with great attention to every detail.
The automatic movement has a 4 HZ balance wheel and a 48 hours autonomy. The balance wheel contrasts nicely with the rest of the movement, being visible also from the dial side.
The back view spectacularity is increased by the handsome rotor-weight. Decorated with a blue guilloche, it steals the entire show. Again, the Louis Moinet logo has a subtle but high regarded positioning.
How to “steal” the Moon and keep it captive in your library
Louis Moinet prepared for the first edition of the Moon a special box.
Shaped like a Jules Verne book, the case holds enclosed in an engraved medallion a second piece of lunar meteorite.
Never stop dreaming and dare to reach for the Moon and stars beyond
The Moon from Louis Moinet is a sweet timepiece. A lovely personification of a story. The watch is comfortable on the wrist and always a pleasure to look at.
Louis Moinet Moon is available in a limited series of 60 pieces in steel and 12 in rose gold. The timepiece is not only original but also brings the sweet nostalgia of childhood. The watch not only gives you the opportunity to have the Moon on the wrist but also to dream to the next step. You always have the Moon, you can reach now for the stars.
This is the last post for 2019. I though at Louis Moinet Moon as a great piece for this occasion. Let’s leave the past behind, remember only the good things. Remember only childhood’s sweetness, the hopes and dreams. Those are the things that will count for your present and future. So dream big, the big dreams!
Happy New Year for 2020! A joyful and successful year!
