The history of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer began in 1978 when Jack Heuer launched the Heuer Reference 844, which was already aimed at adventure enthusiasts. Solargraph, a solar movement developed for TAG Heuer
TAG Heuer’s Solargraph movement is known for harnessing the sun, an unlimited energy source and offers many guaranteed benefits. With the Solargraph movement, there is no need to change the watch’s battery: it is recharged by the sun or artificial light. A two-minute exposure to direct sunlight is enough to power the watch for an entire day. Once fully charged, after less than 20 hours in the sun, the watch can run for up to six months with no light exposure. If the timepiece stops ticking, it only needs exposure to any light source for ten seconds to get it started again, thanks to its ultra-efficient recharge time.
To develop this reliable and efficient movement, called Caliber TH50-00, TAG Heuer partnered with the Manufacture La Joux-Perret in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The Caliber TH50-00 is developed and manufactured exclusively for TAG Heuer and has a 5-year extended warranty.

Six decades on from the birth of the genre-defining Carrera, TAG Heuer introduces a highly collectible 600-piece limited-edition model inspired by a collector favourite
TAG Heuer is delighted to announce the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary. The 600-piece edition watch has a ‘panda’ dial and becomes the curtain-raiser to the 60th Anniversary of Jack Heuer’s timeless creation, the Carrera.
Introduced in 1963, the Heuer Carrera has defined the wristwatch chronograph genre for six decades and is now recognised around the world for its classic, elegant profile, ultra-legible dial, and utterly dependable engineering. It has beenworn by legends of motor sport and stars of the silver screen, from the likes of James Hunt in the 1960s, to Mick Jagger in the 1970s, and on to Ryan Gosling today. It is an icon among icons.
THE WAY FORWARD: The spirit of the Carrera Panamericana lives on
The Carrera’s story has become a legend. Jack Heuer learned of Mexico’s dangerous and short-lived Carrera Panamericana road race in 1962 when he met the Rodríguez brothers at the 12 Hours of Sebring and was inspired to use the name for a wrist-worn chronograph.
Debuting in 1963, Jack’s Carrera captured the speed and adventure of the race, which ran for five years from 1950 to 1954. It also spoke to the aspirations of an ambitious, upwardly mobile young generation, with its round case, absolute legibility and its deliberate simplicity. In short, it was cool.
Six decades on, that spirit remains, Jack’s legacy enshrined for eternity.
SEEING IT BOTH WAYS: A dial design legacy
To pave the way for the year-long celebrations devoted to the Carrera’s 60th Anniversary, TAG Heuer’s design and engineering teams chose to return to one of the most collectible of all vintage Heuer Carreras, the reference 2447 SN of the late 1960s.
The first-generation Heuer Carrera model had a hand-wound Valjoux chronograph movement and either a silvered or black dial in a variety of configurations, sometimes with the addition of a scale around the dial periphery. At the end of the 1960s, a second series was added to the line-up with either a silvered dial and black subdials, or the other way around, known respectively as ‘panda’ and ‘reverse panda’.
The 2447 SN had a silvered dial with black subdials – a panda – as noted in its nomenclature: ‘SN’ meant ‘silver’ and ‘noir’, or silver and black, a mix of English and French that still feels curious today. As ever, this expression of Jack’s design was driven by legibility. The vision behind the Heuer Carrera had been to create a racing instrument from which lap times could be easily recorded, with no room for distraction and absolute legibility from the high-contrast dial.
Building on the success of the earliest Heuer Carreras, the 2447 SN further improved readability at a glance with clever design touches. They included stripes down the hour markers to give them extra clarity, hour and minute hands with stripes down the centre for the same effect, double stops at 12 so it was clear when the chronograph was zeroed, and white hands and markings on the black counters to make them even more visible.
The Heuer Carrera 2447 SN was a masterpiece of understated yet high-functioning design.
WILD TIMES: The Panda returns
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary fires up the ignition ahead of a year of Carrera 60th Anniversary celebrations. Limited to 600 pieces, it’s a faithful reinterpretation of the Carrera 2447 SN.
The colourways are lifted directly from vintage to new, including the black stripes down the central hands and hour markers, the double stops at 12, and of course the black counters with high-contrast white markings.
The vintage Heuer logo is in place, too, with the name Carrera above it on a silver sunray-brushed dial. Even the counter at 6 carries over the word ‘Swiss’, marking the watch’s Swiss Made status. In a game of spot the difference, some observers will note the 60-minute and 12-hour counters are reversed, as well as the subtraction of the T from the dial which designated radioactive tritium on the original watch. This has been replaced with contemporary Super-LumiNova on the new model.
Surrounding the dial is a 39mm polished steel case, topped by a raised profile ‘glass box’ in sapphire crystal, which, along with the vintage pushers, beige lume and slimline tension ring around the dial’s outer edge, gives the watch much of its retro look.
Turn the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary over and its modern classification becomes clearer. A sapphire crystal case back reveals Heuer 02, TAG Heuer’s 80-hour in-house automatic chronograph calibre.
Also visible are the movement’s Geneva Stripes decoration, its column wheel – the device that makes the activation of a chronograph precise and satisfying and a special Carrera 60th Anniversary rotor.
The case back is engraved with the watch’s individual number, XXX/600, and with note of its 100-metre water resistance. The finishing touch is a perforated black calfskin leather racing strap with pin buckle.

TAG Heuer explores new athletic territories with its latest TAG Heuer Connected Sport Edition.
In 2015, TAG Heuer revolutionized high-end watchmaking by launching its first TAG Heuer Connected watch. In recent years, the Swiss watchmaker has established itself as a key player in the luxury connected watch segment, expanding its range and becoming a reference, particularly in the golf community. With the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Sport Edition 45 mm, TAG Heuer is expanding its offer to all committed athletes.
Thanks to its new functions and redesigned strap, the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Sport Edition 45 mm can monitor any sporting activity with an even wider range of data. With the release of a software update planned for mid-February, TAG Heuer has taken the opportunity to launch a new “Trail & Hiking” application for runners and hikers who love the mountains and going higher and further than anyone else. The TAG Heuer Monza is reintroduced in a striking carbon rendition.
One of the significant timepieces in more than 160 years of history for the Swiss luxury watchmaker, the TAG Heuer Monza returns in a contemporary tribute to the indelible link between the company and competition motorsport.

A modern reinterpretation of a timeless classic
The new TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronometer is a special edition with a 42-mm case, made of ultra-lightweight and resistant carbon.
Its striking black dial features a two-register layout with a translucent fumé blue sapphire crystal chronograph counter at 3 and the permanent second at 6 o’clock. The unique skeletonized dial reveals the movement underneath and echoes the piece’s mechanical roots. At 9 o’clock, the date window is in blue luminescent, a first for TAG Heuer, and the blue lacquered indexes and black and white lacquered hours and minutes hands are applied with Super-LumiNova® for optimal legibility in low light.
Delivering high precision and high-performance timekeeping the TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronometer is powered by the in-house Calibre Heuer 02 Flyback, a chronograph movement with COSC certification. The notable advantage of a flyback function is the ability to reset the chronograph without stopping it, using the black DLC steel pushbuttons. Such a feature was only available on the TAG Heuer Autavia in the contemporary collection until now and allows for even faster and more accurate timekeeping.
A racing chronograph in action
The watch offers three functions that are essential to a racing driver in action: a chronograph, a tachymeter scale which indicates average speed for a 1-kilometer or 1-mile distance, measured using the indicator on the black flange, as well as a pulsometer, which helps determine one’s heartrate per minute. This function is used based on the blue line in the top right quadrant of the dial which is calibrated to 15 heartbeats per minute. The user launches the chronograph and counts 15 heartbeats, obtaining his personal read when stopping the chronograph. The pulsometer offers a range of 60 to 200 beats per minute.
Red details, on the dial such as the sub-counter hands and the framing of the date window evoke exhilarating speed and racing hearts. They contrast elegantly against the black dial and case and the bright blue indexes, seconds hand and stitching on the custom textile strap.
An iconic name and lineage
In 1976 the original Heuer Monza was introduced to celebrate Niki Lauda’s historic 1975 victory in the F1 World Championship. Often referred to by the championas the “unbelievable year”, the particularly nail-biting season saw him take home his first world title, with five wins for the Scuderia Ferrari of which Heuer was the technical timing partner since 1971. His Swiss teammate Clay Regazonni won the Italian Grand Prix that year, the penultimate race of the season and the team’s home track, with Lauda finishing third and securing his championship title.
After difficult years for the team, which had not been victorious since 1964, the 1975 win was incredibly meaningful and Jack Heuer marked the achievement with a watch no less remarkable, the Heuer Monza.
Interestingly the model was originally meant to be called the Modena after the home town of Ferrari but the strength of the name of Italy’s premier racing circuit was soon realised. The choice of the name was indicative of the brand’s deep love for motorsport, paying homage to the fastest F1 track in the world, an iconic location whose high speed turns such as the legendary Parabolica in the shadows of the original banked track, have stood the test of time, remaining a career- defining race for even the most experienced drivers for more than 100 years now.
The Heuer Monza authentically expressed this fierceness, it was one of the first black-coated watches of the era; the first reference 150.501 was powered by the Calibre 15 with its signature running second at 10 o’clock, and it was later complimented with a version powered by the Calibre 12 thanks to its resounding success.
The history of the TAG Heuer Monza is one of select designs, which was modernly revived in the early 2000’s and reintroduced occasionally since then. The 2023 edition is therefore an exciting launch that will delight collectors and fans of the rarely seen yet highly sought-after design.
Today TAG Heuer continues its longstanding support of Formula 1 with the Oracle Red Bull Racing team, its partner since 2016. And fittingly, Team Principle Christian Horner has a deep personal connection to the TAG Heuer Monza, it was the watch he bought for himself to celebrate his first racing successes. Bursting with motorsport heritage and symbolism, the TAG Heuer Monza continues to be a racing machine on the wrist for generations to come.
