The new custom-made Lang & Heyne Friedrich III, named Orient by its customer, is a truly remarkable piece of artisanship made by the renowned Maison. Inspired by an ancient Asian pottery seen in the Musée Guimet in Paris, the name runs like a red thread through the design language of this watch.
It has a beautiful white enamel dial with a painting inspired from this ancient bowl. The dial is made in white gold with champlevé technique – presenting logo and “made in Saxony”. There is no small second and no numerals; instead, our porcelain painter, who completed her training at the well-known porcelain manufacture in Meißen, paints it with grass and flowers in shades of blue and black on white enamel. The design merges with the edge and the position of the painting gives an indication of the position of the actual numerals. The hands are specially designed for this watch, slim and discreet in blued steel to develop its effect optimally.
The 18ct white gold case is set with a blue sapphire stone in the crown.
The movement is a feast for the eyes. Instead of gold plating, it was rhodium plated and features engravings of “pièce unique” and “Orient”. Special highlights for constant amazement are the polished surface of the three gold wheels and, a special challenge for our master watchmakers, the winding wheels with polished surface. To further flatter the overall appearance, the otherwise red ruby bearings were replaced with clear ones.
Lang & Heyne manufacure is very grateful for being offered the chance of creating such a unique masterpiece for one of our customers and the trust he had placed in us in realizing his dream watch. This watch is truly a unique, timeless piece of art.
