A collection that captures the key colour notes of a new day dawning over the ocean, as seen from the beaches of Sydney, Australia.
Make time for the important things… Christophe Hoppe will always make time for an ocean sunrise swim – one of the primary reasons he moved to Australia. With the release of the Bausele Sydney Diver: Endless Sunrise collection, Christo hopes to share some of the magic he experiences every morning and to encourage wearers to make time for the important things in life.
Bausele packs key features of its winning vintage MIL-SPEC watch series, like the 39.5mm case and the Sellita SW200 Swiss Made mechanical self-winding movement with hacking seconds rated to a depth of 200 meters (20 ATM), into a sporty-elegant, ultra-comfortable dive watch with both a stainless-steel Milanese mesh bracelet and a rubber strap.
*BEEP BEEP* The alarm clock echoes through the dark room. After a couple of minutes of waiting for the sleep to fade, Bausele founder and lead designer Christophe Hoppe dons his swimsuit, swim cap, goggles, and watch. While he walks out the door and turns toward the ocean, the sun begins to rise. The sunrise turns the water into a world of endless colours – one of Christo’s favourite scenes in the world. As the man behind “the Makers of Time”, Christo will always make the time for his morning ocean swim, regardless of what life throws his way. As a tribute to that world of gorgeous colours, Bausele will be releasing a new collection of dive watches in 2023 – the Sydney Diver: Endless Sunrise.
The timepieces in this collection combine the specifications of Bausele’s wildly popular “MIL-SPEC Dive Watch” with bright orange, yellow, blue, and white dials to mimic the colours of a sunrise over Australia’s oceans.
More than a watch: a lifestyle
Christo says that this timepiece is “the watch I always wanted to design that fit my lifestyle: in the ocean every morning and then at work in the city during the day. The Tropic rubber allows that and the fact it is thin and fits the wrist so well makes it a super comfy watch you want to wear on all occasions. You forget you’re wearing it but once you see it on your wrist, it is a spectacular watch, especially with these touches of colours…”
The watch
Every visual and ergonomic element present in the Sydney Diver was designed to remind wearers of a spectacular sunrise while remaining ultra-comfortable. The case features surgical grade 316L stainless steel and has been sandblasted to reduce reflection while still delivering a deep silver colour. The case measures in at a versatile 39.5mm size, with a 47mm lug-to-lug measurement. The Diver glides smoothly through the water with a thickness of just 9.5mm only (exclusive of the domed crystal). And speaking of water, the timepiece features 200 meters of water resistance. Part of Bausele’s signature style, the watch includes a transparent crown featuring grains of sand from Christo’s home beach in Manly.
Not only do the Sydney Diver timepieces look and feel amazing, but they are also made with longevity in mind. Sporting a Sellita SW200 automatic hacking movement, the Diver is equipped with 26 jewels and a 38-hour power reserve. Bausele selected the SW200 because of its Swiss-Made precision and reliability.
Choice of dial
Endless Sunrise allows wearers to choose an orange or yellow dial akin to the warm sunrays or the blue or white dials representative of the ocean and waves. The colour choice of the 2-layer dial is complimented by the simplicity of the hour marker and bezel design. The timepiece’s hands and markers are coated with “old-radium” style Luminova.
A watch to wear at all times
One of Christo’s favourite ways to conclude a timepiece is to provide straps that help it move seamlessly between the boardroom, the backyard, and the Outback. The Sydney Diver is no exception – it comes equipped with a stainless steel Milanese mesh with end links that give the appearance of an integrated bracelet. The watch also comes with a tropic rubber strap, and both straps are easily interchangeable.
