Oris renews its collaboration with the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat with a limited-edition version of the evergreen Aquis diver’s watch with a dial inspired by salt marshes – the Oris Aquis Dat Watt Limited Edition II.
The call of the sea
Oris returns to the beautiful Wadden Sea, a vital ecosystem, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the world’s largest unbroken intertidal flats system
Oris returns to the beautiful Wadden Sea, a vital ecosystem, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the world’s largest unbroken intertidal flats system.
The Common Wadden Sea Secretariat is a trilateral organisation that works to protect and conserve the Wadden Sea, an area covering 11,500 km2 in northern Europe that reaches 500km along the coast of Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands. It’s the world’s largest unbroken tidal flats system and home to around 10,000 species of flora and fauna. Here, nature evolves almost undisturbed. Its importance to global biodiversity earned it UNESCO World Heritage Site status in 2009.
Despite the protections this listing affords, the Wadden Sea – known as Dat Watt in a local dialect – faces several threats, primarily human-made. Overfishing, pollution, shipping, tourism and the challenges posed by climate change are among the threats to the area. The CWSS works to preserve it for future generations.
A further challenge is how to engage the next generation of conservationists in the CWSS’s mission. By extending our collaboration, Oris and the CWSS will be targeting youth-focused programmes that inspire young people, encouraging them to recognise the great power they have to bring Change for the Better.
“At Oris, our focus on bringing Change for the Better grows sharper all the time,” says our Co-CEO, Rolf Studer. “We’re excited to extend our partnership with the CWSS and to support it any way we can. This collaboration is another example of our company-wide attitude to sustainability, conservation and humanitarianism. Together we can bring Change for the Better.”
Salt and light
The Dat Watt Limited Edition II is inspired by the salt marshes of the Wadden Sea. It’s a joyful symbol of Change for the Better
Oris is proud to introduce the Dat Watt Limited Edition II, the second watch created to mark our collaboration with the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat (CWSS), an organisation that works to conserve the Wadden Sea in northern Europe.
The watch serves as a powerful symbol of Oris’s commitment to bringing Change for the Better and to the strength of our newly extended partnership with the CWSS. It’s based on the Aquis, our evergreen diver’s watch, and features a shimmering green dial inspired by the waters of the salt marshes that form a vital part of the Wadden Sea’s diverse ecosystem. These salt marshes are home to 2,300 species of flora and fauna and act as natural storage for CO2 that might otherwise be released into the environment.
As well as being symbolic, the Dat Watt Limited Edition II is a high-performance, real-world diver’s watch. Its 43.5 mm case is water-resistant to 30 bar (300 metres) and features a number of devices designed to ensure safe underwater timekeeping. It has a uni-directional rotating bezel for securely timing dives (the minutes scale appears on a grey tungsten bezel insert); a screwdown security crown with protection; and lumed hands and indexes for clear underwater legibility. It also comes with a blue rubber strap and a three-link stainless steel metal bracelet, both equipped with a safety clasp with an extension system so it can be worn over a wetsuit.
Inside it is a Swiss Made automatic mechanical movement that equips the watch with a small seconds at 9 o’clock (half of which is coated in lume to provide a diver with evidence the watch is running) and an unusual circular date function, indicated by a white dash that rotates through a 360-degree channel over a 31-day period.
The Dat Watt Limited Edition II captures the natural beauty of the Wadden Sea and the joyful spirit of the ongoing partnership between Oris and the CWSS. Only 2,009 pieces will be made, signifying the year the Wadden Sea was awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status.
