The world’s largest windsurfing event of the PWA World Tour 2023, the Windsurf World Cup Sylt 2023, came to an end last Sunday after 10 action-packed days on Sylt. The spectacular competitions in Westerland were particularly successful from a German point of view: with a sensational second place in the supreme discipline of wave-riding for 21-year-old student Maria Behrens from Lübeck, as well as second place for 19-year-old Lennart Neubauer from Bremen in freestyle. Alpina Watches was once again official watch and event partner.
Over 100 of the world’s best and fastest on-board artists made the PWA World Tour’s Super Grand Slam an eventful event. Unfortunately, the weather did not play along on all days, so the men’s wave competition had to be stopped after the first round. As a result, there were 16 first-place finishers in this discipline in the final result, including the two Germans Julian Salmonn and Leon Jamaer.
Alpina Watches was once again a sponsor and co-organizer of this event. Markus Rettig, Managing Director of Frederique Constant & Alpina, was personally on hand to present the two world champions – Sahra-Quita Offringa in waveriding and Yentel Caers in freestyle – with an Alpina Watch in recognition of their top performance. “After all the exciting, eventful days, meeting these young extreme athletes was a very special highlight for me.”
He was particularly pleased with the positive feedback from the approximately 200,000 spectators on the Alpina watch brand. The Alpina Watches pop-up store on the promenade was enthusiastically received.
The special focus was on the Alpine Extreme Automatic. Alpina Watches, which is celebrating its 140th anniversary this year, paid tribute to the extraordinary sports watch with many new models.
This year’s event was once again held under the motto of sustainability. Alpina paid special attention to the official “BEACH CLEAN UP”, during which the Sylt beach was cleaned up with joint forces and the financial support of Alpina. Over 90 kg of rubbish was collected on the beach of the event area within an hour.
