The Sarpaneva Supermoon is a tribute to the original Korona K3 from 2008. Honoring its legacy while introducing subtle yet significant updates. This limited edition timepiece, made only 12 pieces, features a reimagined dial design from Korona.
One of the most striking enhancements of the Sarpaneva Supermoon is the larger 12mm Moon, crafted from white gold, which takes center stage under the dial.
The increased size of the Moon enhances its presence, making it a more prominent feature of the watch, while the new dial design offers a fresh yet familiar aesthetic.
This limited edition release is not only a celebration of the original Sarpaneva Korona K3 but also a testament to the enduring appeal of Stepan’s unique vision, combining artistic expression with technical mastery.
Stepan‘s inspiration for the Supermoon blends urban and natural elements, drawing from the intricate ironwork of Helsinki’s pavements.
The skeletonised dial of the Sarpaneva Supermoon, evokes images of a forest, a cloudy night sky, or even the vastness of outer space. This unique aesthetic, where the steel structure of the dial resembles branches or clouds, creates an evocative setting for the Moon’s phases.
Stepan imagined that by placing the Moon beneath this dial, one could almost feel as if they were watching the Moon transition through its phases while glimpsing it through the branches of a nighttime forest. This poetic vision turns time-telling into an experience that connects the wearer with the subtle beauty of nature and the cosmos.
Stepan‘s vision for the Moon on his Korona watches was deeply influenced by the mood and character he observed in Finland. He sought to create a Moon that embodied a specific emotional nuance, one that resonated with the Finnish spirit.
According to Stepan, “everyone here in Finland floats around with an aura of slight melancholy,” which made a traditionally smiling Moon seem out of place.
Instead, he opted for a more complex expression—one that combined aristocratic melancholy with a subtle, almost indecisive emotion, leaving the Moon’s nature somewhere between happiness and sadness.
This enigmatic face, which has become Stepan‘s trademark, reflects a deep connection to his cultural surroundings. The Moon on the Korona K3 is neither fully joyous nor sorrowful; it simply “is,” much like the people of Finland.
