A few names carry the gravitas of A. Lange & Söhne, and for 30 years, the Lange 1 has been the brand’s iconic beacon. To commemorate this anniversary, A. Lange & Söhne introduces four stunning limited-edition pieces: the Lange 1 and Little Lange 1 in both platinum and pink gold variants.
During a festive event organised by A. Lange & Söhne in the Berlin Boutique, the watches were revealed to a small selection of journalists and friends of the brand.
Platinum and gold in two sizes
The new models of the Lange 1 and Little Lange 1 are offered in two different materials: 950 platinum and 750 pink gold. The cases measure 38.5 mm in diameter for the Lange 1 and a slightly smaller 36.8 mm for the Little Lange 1, offering versatility for different wrist sizes.
Platinum, with its icy lustre and refined finish, carries an unmistakable aura of luxury. The robust yet elegant construction of the case is complemented by a sapphire crystal caseback, offering a visual treat for those who appreciate the intricate workings of the movement within.
The pink gold variant, with its warm reddish hue, is paired beautifully with a deep blue dial, giving off a sense of regal sophistication. The slim bezels and prominent lugs enhance the classic yet modern silhouette, ensuring that these watches are equally suited for both formal and casual wear. Both materials exude an understated luxury, perfect for those who appreciate quiet sophistication.
Black onyx and Lange blue
True to its legacy, the Lange 1 maintains its off-centre dial configuration, a hallmark that has set it apart since its debut. The platinum version dazzles with a black onyx dial, a first for the Lange 1 collection. Onyx, rarely used in fine watchmaking, provides a jet-black, shimmering surface that stands out starkly against the platinum case. The result is a watch that feels distinctly modern, while staying rooted in classical elegance.
On the pink gold variant, the blue dial crafted from 925 silver provides a captivating contrast. The delicate, brushed surface enhances the depth and texture of the dial, offering a play of light that is nothing short of mesmerizing. Both watches feature the signature Lange outsize date display, located on the right side of the dial, while the Roman numerals and lancet-shaped appliques on the hour and minute circle are positioned to the left. The design adheres to the golden ratio, creating a sense of balance that feels timeless, even after three decades.
L121.1 manufacture calibre
A. Lange & Söhne’s watchmaking prowess is on full display with the L121.1 manufacture calibre that powers both models. This manually wound movement is a technical marvel, boasting 368 parts and showcasing the finest traditional German craftsmanship. The twin mainspring barrel provides an impressive 72-hour power reserve, ensuring that the watch runs precisely for three days without needing to be wound.
What truly sets the movement apart is its artistry. A glance through the transparent caseback reveals the three-quarter plate made of untreated German silver, adorned with Glashütte ribbing. The hand-engraved balance cock is another testament to Lange’s attention to detail, while the eight screwed gold chatons held by blued screws add a touch of colour contrast against the silver backdrop.
This calibre is also equipped with a shock-resistant balance with eccentric poising weights and a Lange-manufactured balance spring that beats at 21,600 semi-oscillations per hour. It ensures the outsize date mechanism changes instantaneously at midnight, adding a touch of mechanical poetry to an already sublime watch.
Happy Birthday Lange 1
The 30th-anniversary editions of the Lange 1 and Little Lange 1 embody everything that A. Lange & Söhne stands for: precision, elegance, and a relentless pursuit of horological perfection. Whether in the austere coolness of platinum and black onyx or the opulent warmth of pink gold and blue, these watches are timeless treasures. Limited to just 300 pieces in platinum and 150 pieces in pink gold for each model, they are not merely watches, but symbols of the legacy that A. Lange & Söhne has built over three decades.
In every sense, these timepieces are a collector’s dream, not just for their rarity but for their meticulous craftsmanship and the story they tell. They are a reminder that in the world of horology, true greatness comes from the marriage of tradition and innovation – a feat that A. Lange & Söhne continues to master with every tick of the Lange 1.
