When elegance dances with functionality- the Faubourg de Cracovie Crossroads by Czapek & Cie stands as a testament to this intricate ballet. Embodying the fascinating blend of sport and sophistication, this masterpiece is a vivid illustration of the brand’s relentless pursuit of modern classicism.
A Short History of Czapek & Cie
Established in 1845, Czapek & Cie has a storied history of innovation and craftsmanship. Co-founded by François Czapek (who was the author of the first book on watchmaking ever published in the Polish language Słów kilka o Zegarmistrzowstwie ku użytku zegarmistrzów i publiczności – “Remarks on the watchmaking for the use of the watchmakers and the public”), the brand has been a pioneer since its inception, reviving its legacy with a modern breath while honoring its past. Known for its exquisite designs and commitment to artisanal techniques, Czapek continues to weave its historical narrative into every creation, bridging age-old traditions with contemporary artistry.
Sportiness and details
The Faubourg de Cracovie Crossroads showcases a 41.5mm steel case that resonates with refined strength. Its unique design features hollowed-out lugs and pushers integrated into the crown guards – a testament to Czapek‘s signature of modern classicism. This thoughtful design creates a harmonious balance between robust sporting functionality and elegant aesthetics, making it suitable for any occasion, whether in the boardroom or on a twisty country road.
A reinterpretation of the ‘Double Soleil’
The dial of the Crossroads is where the magic truly happens. Czapek has reduced the main section of the dial to elegantly incorporate the tachymeter scale, an element that harks back to the brand’s connection with motor sport. Collaborating with dial-making expert Metalem, Czapek introduces a new guilloché pattern – a reinterpretation of the ‘Double Soleil’. This pattern, reminiscent of tyre treads, pays homage to racing heritage, while maintaining sophisticated elegance. Available in Deep Blue and a limited edition ‘Secret Alloy’, the dials capture light with striking brilliance, emphasizing engraved textures that are both modern and timeless.
Cazpek & Vaucher
At the heart of the Faubourg de Cracovie line lies the Calibre SXH3. Born from a collaboration in 2018 with Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier, this movement embodies the pinnacle of chronograph technology. It features a column wheel for precise pusher action, a vertical clutch for flawless chronograph operation, and a linear zero-resetting hammer for seamless resets. Operating at a high frequency of 5Hz, the movement ensures accuracy to 1/10 of a second. The attention to detail in the finishing is remarkable; the contrast between the sand-blasted, anthracite bridges and the 18-carat pink gold rotor is visually stunning, reinforcing Czapek‘s dedication to both form and function.
Final words
The Faubourg de Cracovie Crossroads by Czapek & Cie is a narrative of tradition meeting innovation. It encapsulates the brand’s philosophy of modern classicism, artfully blending sporty dynamics with exquisite craftsmanship. Available globally from May 2025, this timepiece is a must-have for collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate the harmonious interplay of technical precision and aesthetic beauty. Czapek has indeed set a new benchmark with this launch, reaffirming its position at the intersection of horological art and modern design.
These are two spectacular watches. I cannot decide a clear favourite for me: although I am super impressed by the Deep Blue and its reverse panda contrast, the Secret Alloy has a certain shine that I cannot escape from. There is no question of legibility and the wrist pose is fantastic. Like any other Czapeks, the watches are beautiful are enjoyable, and an conversation opener regardless of familiarity with the brand or not.
