A Legacy Rooted in Creativity and Excellence

Gérald Charles Genta, widely regarded as one of the most influential watch designers in history, established Gerald Charles with a vision to create watches that were both artistically daring and technically impeccable. Known for designing iconic timepieces such as the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus, Mr Genta brought decades of expertise to his eponymous brand. Following his passing in 2011, the Ziviani family—long-time friends and trusted partners—continued his mission, preserving his artistic legacy while introducing new innovations. Today, Gerald Charles remains a boutique Maison producing limited-edition watches for discerning collectors.

The Maestro GC39 25th Anniversary Edition: A Celebration of Heritage

To commemorate its silver jubilee, Gerald Charles introduced the Maestro GC39 25th Anniversary Edition—a limited-edition masterpiece inspired by Mr Genta’s original GC39 design from 2005. This watch reimagines the classic “montre à guichet” or “window watch” style with modern enhancements.

The radiant dial features a lapis lazuli centre surrounded by a Baroque-style star motif created using Gerald Charles’ proprietary meta-guillochage technique—a precision micro-chemical engraving process that produces mesmerising light reflections. The jumping hours complication displays time via an anti-clockwise rotating disc at 12 o’clock, paired with a blued central hour hand that allows light to pass through its skeletonised design.

The asymmetric case shape draws inspiration from Baroque architecture observed by Mr Genta in Rome, crafted from polished Grade 5 titanium measuring 42mm x 42mm. Despite its complexity, the case maintains an elegant thickness of just 11mm while offering water resistance up to 100 metres. The watch is paired with a royal blue vulcanised rubber strap featuring Clous de Paris detailing.

At its core lies the Swiss Manufacture 4.0 Caliber Jumping Hours movement developed in-house by Gerald Charles. This innovative mechanism includes an additional 80 components over standard movements to support its unique complication while delivering a robust 50-hour power reserve. The movement is meticulously hand-finished with Côtes de Genève stripes and perlage techniques—a testament to Gerald Charles’ commitment to craftsmanship.
