The dial of the Excalibur Grande Complication is designed with functionality and clarity in mind. It features a Biretrograde display for the perpetual calendar, which includes semi-circle scales for the day of the week and day of the month. These scales incorporate skeletonised hands with semi-instantaneous jumps, ensuring smooth transitions. Additionally, a month disc is positioned between 11 and 12 o’clock, complemented by a small leap year indicator. The layout balances technical complexity with readability, making it a practical yet sophisticated interface for displaying time and calendar information.

At the heart of this watch lies the Calibre RD118, an automatic movement that combines three major complications: perpetual calendar, minute repeater, and flying tourbillon. This calibre delivers a power reserve of 60 hours and achieves the Poinçon de Genève certification due to its exceptional finishing standards. Each component is hand-decorated to ensure both aesthetic refinement and functional precision. The perpetual calendar mechanism operates with a mechanical memory capable of automatically adjusting for months with varying lengths and leap years, requiring no manual correction until 2100.

The minute repeater complication is engineered with precision acoustics. Activated via a pusher on the case’s left side, it produces a tritone chime using hammers striking gongs. The “all-or-nothing” mechanism ensures operational security by requiring full activation of the pusher to engage the chime.

The flying tourbillon is positioned between 5 and 6 o’clock within the movement. Constructed from lightweight titanium to minimise magnetic interference, it features a mirror-polished cage inspired by Celtic crosses. This gravity-defying mechanism enhances accuracy while showcasing Roger Dubuis’ innovative approach to watchmaking.
