Reading Time: 7 minutes

The Streamliner Alpine Drivers Edition and Streamliner Alpine Mechanics Edition represent the latest chapter in the collaboration between H. Moser & Cie. and Alpine Motorsports, a partnership that seeks to transcend the customary boundaries of watch and automotive alliances. Rather than relying on superficial branding exercises, this collaboration is rooted in a shared commitment to engineering rigour, technical innovation, and the pursuit of precision, both on the wrist and on the racetrack. Each model, developed for distinct but complementary purposes, embodies a synthesis of horological tradition and contemporary technological advancement, reflecting the evolving needs of drivers and mechanics within the high-stakes environment of Formula 1 and endurance racing.

History of the H. Moser & Cie. and Alpine Collaboration

Founded in 1828 by Heinrich Moser, H. Moser & Cie. has established itself as an independent Swiss watchmaker with a reputation for technical mastery and in-house innovation. The brand’s integration with Precision Engineering AG has enabled it to develop a wide range of proprietary calibres and components, reinforcing its standing within the horological community. Alpine Motorsports, meanwhile, is synonymous with French engineering excellence and competitive spirit, particularly within Formula 1 and endurance racing.

Streamliner Alpine Drivers Edition and the Streamliner Alpine Mechanics Edition

The partnership between H. Moser & Cie. and Alpine commenced in 2024, driven by a mutual desire to explore the intersection of mechanical excellence and motorsport performance. The collaboration’s inaugural offering was the Streamliner Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton Alpine, which set the stage for a more ambitious project: the development of watches not only inspired by motorsport but designed as functional instruments for those at the heart of the racing world. The Streamliner Alpine Drivers Edition and Mechanics Edition, launched in 2025, are the first fruits of this technical alliance, each conceived through direct dialogue with Alpine’s drivers and engineering teams.

Streamliner Alpine Drivers Edition

The dial of the Streamliner Alpine Drivers Edition is fully skeletonised, offering an unobstructed view of the underlying mechanics. This design is a direct response to input from Alpine’s drivers, who sought a timepiece that would mirror the stripped-back, performance-driven ethos of their single-seaters. The dial’s architecture is defined by two prominent V-shaped bridges, a deliberate reference to the triangulated suspension arms found in Formula 1 cars. The central bridge is shaped to evoke a driver’s helmet, reinforcing the watch’s thematic alignment with motorsport.

The hands are finished in blue and white, with Globolight® inserts for enhanced legibility. A minute track encircles the dial, providing precise readings for both elapsed seconds and minutes, while a tachymeter scale is positioned on the flange. Notably, the chronograph display eschews traditional subdials in favour of a centralised layout, with both elapsed minutes and seconds indicated by centrally mounted hands. This approach prioritises clarity and rapid information retrieval, essential in the context of competitive racing.

Streamliner Alpine Mechanics Edition

The dial of the Streamliner Alpine Mechanics Edition is a hybrid construction that integrates both analogue and digital elements. At rest, the watch presents a discreet, black sapphire screen, which remains inactive until engaged. Upon activation, the digital display illuminates to reveal a suite of functions, including a split-seconds chronograph, perpetual calendar, GMT with country selector, and a dedicated F1 mode with race countdowns and team notifications.

A small, domed Funky Blue fumé dial is positioned at 12 o’clock, displaying the time via traditional hands and indices filled with Super-LumiNova®. This analogue subdial is overlaid with the H. Moser & Cie. logo in transparent lacquer, maintaining a visual link to the brand’s heritage. The juxtaposition of digital and mechanical display elements is intended to facilitate rapid access to mission-critical data while retaining the aesthetic codes of traditional horology.

Agenhor Craftsmanship – Streamliner Alpine Drivers Edition

At the heart of the Streamliner Alpine Drivers Edition lies the HMC 700 calibre, developed in partnership with Agenhor. This self-winding, skeletonised chronograph movement is a technical showcase, comprising 434 components and 55 jewels. The movement measures 34.4 mm in diameter and 7.3 mm in height, with a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. It is equipped with a bi-directional winding system and a skeletonised tungsten oscillating weight, which is visible from the dial side and echoes the design of the Alpine A110 wheel rim.

The chronograph mechanism is engineered for precision and reliability, utilising a column wheel and a two-stage system with a horizontal clutch. The clutch features a friction wheel with micro-teeth, designed to minimise engagement shocks and ensure smooth operation. The inclusion of a tulip yoke enables precise actuation of the chronograph, while the flyback function allows for instantaneous restarting, an essential feature in the context of motorsport timing. The movement’s bridges and main plate are finished in anthracite grey rhodium-plating and adorned with Moser stripes set at a 45-degree angle, underscoring the attention to detail characteristic of Agenhor’s approach to movement architecture.

The digital module is responsible for a range of functions, including a 1/100th-second chronograph, perpetual calendar, and race mode with real-time alerts. The watch is compatible with both iOS and Android devices, synchronising via Bluetooth Low Energy 5.3. The power reserve is calibrated for longevity, offering up to 12 months of autonomy in time-only mode or sufficient capacity for six Grand Prix weekends when the digital display is continuously active. The movement comprises 186 components, and its construction is tailored to withstand the rigours of the pit lane environment.
