Chopard and the Mille Miglia 2025: A Legacy of Racing and Watchmaking Excellence

Reading Time: 5 minutes

For the 38th consecutive year, Chopard stands as the World Sponsor and Official Timekeeper of the Mille Miglia, the legendary Italian endurance rally that has captivated the hearts of motorsport enthusiasts since 1927. This enduring partnership, one of the most celebrated in the world of horology and motorsport, is marked in 2025 by the unveiling of two exceptional timepieces: the Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph Tribute to Sir Stirling Moss and the Mille Miglia GTS Power Control – 2025 Race Edition. Both watches, exclusive to Chopard boutiques, embody the Maison’s dedication to precision, style, and the spirit of competition that defines the Mille Miglia.

The Mille Miglia: A Storied Race and Its Enduring Allure

The Mille Miglia, conceived by a circle of Italian noblemen and motoring enthusiasts, first roared to life in 1927. Designed as a thousand-mile figure-eight circuit from Brescia to Rome and back, the race quickly established itself as the most ambitious and demanding road event in Italy, attracting daring drivers and iconic manufacturers such as Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, and Mercedes-Benz. Over the decades, the Mille Miglia became synonymous with both the triumphs and dangers of open-road racing, its legend immortalized by feats such as Sir Stirling Moss’s record-setting victory in 1955, a record that remains unbroken to this day.

Mille Miglia

Following a tragic accident in 1957, the original race was discontinued, but its legacy endures in the modern Mille Miglia, now a prestigious rally for classic cars that once competed in the original event. The route, which always starts and ends in Brescia, traverses Italy’s most scenic cities and mountain passes, demanding both skill and endurance from its participants.

Chopard and the Mille Miglia: A Partnership Forged in Passion

Chopard’s association with the Mille Miglia began in 1988, when the Maison assumed the role of Official Timekeeper and World Sponsor. This collaboration was born from the personal passion of Chopard Co-President Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, himself a devoted collector of vintage automobiles and a perennial competitor in the race. Since then, Chopard has created a commemorative watch for each edition of the Mille Miglia, blending Swiss watchmaking expertise with the aesthetics and spirit of classic motorsport.

The 2025 Mille Miglia Watches: Celebrating Heritage and Innovation

This year, Chopard introduces two limited-edition timepieces that pay homage to the race’s rich history and the Maison’s own milestones.

Mille Miglia

Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph Tribute to Sir Stirling Moss

Marking the 70th anniversary of Sir Stirling Moss’s legendary 1955 victory, the Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph Tribute to Sir Stirling Moss is a 70-piece limited edition crafted in Chopard’s proprietary Lucent Steel™. The 40.5 mm case, with its welded lugs and polished bezel, recalls the architecture of vintage racing machines. A ‘glass box’ sapphire crystal crowns the silvered, opaline dial, its matte finish evoking the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR that Moss piloted to victory.

The dial’s blue and red accents, along with baton hands and Arabic numeral hour markers coated in Grade X1 Super-LumiNova®, ensure both legibility and a subtle nod to the racing world. The chronograph layout features small seconds at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, and a 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock, with a discreet date window positioned between 4 and 5 o’clock. The watch is powered by a COSC-certified automatic chronograph movement, based on the ETA A322-11, offering a 54-hour power reserve and a frequency of 28,800 vph.

Mille Miglia

On the reverse, the exhibition case-back bears the Mille Miglia motif, the date and record time of Moss’s victory, and an engraving of a chequered flag intertwined with the Union Jack—an eloquent tribute to the British driver’s enduring legacy. The watch is completed by a perforated brown calfskin strap, echoing the rally spirit of the era.

Mille Miglia

Mille Miglia GTS Power Control – 2025 Race Edition

Commemorating the 10th anniversary of the GTS (Gran Turismo Sport) line, the Mille Miglia GTS Power Control – 2025 Race Edition is limited to 250 pieces. Its 43 mm case, rendered in Lucent Steel™, is distinguished by a salmon-coloured, satin-finished dial, a hue inspired by the hand-crafted dashboards of classic racing cars from 1940 to 1957.

Mille Miglia

The bold design is accentuated by a black aluminium bezel, black hands and hour markers coated in black Super-LumiNova®, and a signature power reserve indicator styled as a ‘fuel gauge’ between 8 and 10 o’clock. The date window and small seconds counter further enhance the dashboard motif, while the iconic Mille Miglia red arrow marks the dial.

Mille Miglia

At its heart, the watch houses Chopard’s in-house 01.02-M calibre, a COSC-certified automatic movement with a 60-hour power reserve and a stop-seconds function. The exhibition case-back reveals a rotor shaped like a vintage steering wheel, underscoring the watch’s automotive pedigree. Water-resistant to 100 metres, the timepiece is secured by a black perforated calfskin strap lined with rubber embossed in a Dunlop tyre tread pattern, a signature detail of the Mille Miglia collection.

Celebrating motorsport

The 2025 Mille Miglia collection by Chopard is a testament to the enduring bond between motorsport and fine watchmaking. Each timepiece not only celebrates a milestone, be it the 70th anniversary of an unbeaten racing record or a decade of the GTS series, but also encapsulates the passion, precision, and heritage that define both the Mille Miglia and Chopard itself. As the engines start in Brescia and the classic cars trace their storied route, these watches will accompany drivers and collectors alike, embodying the spirit of competition and the artistry of Swiss horology
