The SpaceOne WorldTimer marks the third act for the young French maison, following the Jumping Hour and Tellurium, and continues its mission of delivering innovative, technically ambitious, and accessible watchmaking. Founded in 2023 by Théo Auffret and Guillaume Laidet, SpaceOne has quickly established itself as a disruptor in the world of contemporary horology, blending avant-garde design with practical complications inspired by the spirit of exploration.
The WorldTimer is SpaceOne’s boldest statement yet: a watch designed for the global traveller, merging a futuristic aesthetic with a highly original approach to the world time complication. This timepiece is not only a showcase of technical ingenuity but also a testament to the collaborative expertise of its creators: Auffret, a celebrated independent watchmaker; Laidet, a dynamic entrepreneur; and Olivier Gamiette, a designer renowned for his visionary, space-age lines.

Radical Universal
The dial of the WorldTimer is a radical departure from conventional world time watches. Instead of traditional hands, SpaceOne employs a system of rotating discs: minutes disc at 3 o’clock, central seconds disc, 12-Hour disc at 6 o’clock, coaxial discs at 9 o’clock for 24-hour time and city indication.

This architecture creates a digital-style display that is both visually striking and highly legible. The city and 24-hour discs are housed under a prominent sapphire dome, adding depth and a sense of technical theatre to the dial. The layout is intuitive, allowing quick reference to the local time in any of 24 global cities. The use of discs, rather than hands, is a nod to both space shuttle instrumentation and the automotive world, a recurring theme in Gamiette’s design language.

Soprod workhorse in independent creativity
At the heart of the WorldTimer is the robust Soprod P024 automatic movement, operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz) and offering a 38-hour power reserve. However, the true innovation lies in the in-house developed WorldTimer module, conceived and assembled in Paris. This proprietary complication allows for: three-position crown for intuitive adjustment (winding, quick city disc setting, simultaneous 12-hour and 24-hour disc adjustment)

This system ensures that setting the watch for global travel is seamless and user-friendly – an impressive feat given the complexity of the display. The movement’s reliability, paired with the bespoke French complication, embodies SpaceOne’s ethos of blending Swiss precision with Parisian creativity.

Future shaped in grade 5 titanium
The case is crafted from Grade 5 titanium, chosen for its exceptional lightness and durability. Measuring 41.9 mm wide, 52.7 mm lug-to-lug, and 15.88 mm thick (including the city dome), the WorldTimer wears boldly but comfortably. The finishing is a play of polished, brushed, and sandblasted surfaces, enhancing its futuristic, technical character. The prominent sapphire domes are not merely aesthetic, they provide robust protection for the intricate discs beneath. Water resistance is rated at 3 ATM (30 metres), suitable for daily wear but clearly prioritising technical sophistication over sports functionality.

The Creators and Their Expertise
Théo Auffret: An independent watchmaker of considerable repute, Auffret brings technical rigour and creative flair. His previous works; such as the Tourbillon à Paris and Grand Sport Tourbillon, have been GPHG pre-selected, and his expertise in developing bespoke complications is evident in the WorldTimer’s unique module.

Guillaume Laidet: A leading figure among the new generation of watch entrepreneurs, Laidet is known for revitalising heritage brands and making high-quality Swiss watchmaking accessible. As CEO of both Nivada Grenchen and SpaceOne, his business acumen and passion for innovation drive the brand’s success.

Olivier Gamiette: The designer behind SpaceOne’s distinctive visual identity, Gamiette’s background in automotive design (notably at Peugeot) and his fascination with space exploration result in watches that are as much objects of art as they are instruments of time. His book, “Soon – Timepiece Phenomena”, cements his status as a thought leader in futuristic watch design.

“Space” project of the year
The SpaceOne WorldTimer is a compelling synthesis of technical innovation, avant-garde design, and practical functionality. It challenges the conventions of world time watches with its disc-based display and in-house complication, all housed in a nicely finished titanium case. The collaborative expertise of Auffret, Laidet, and Gamiette is palpable in every detail, from the intuitive crown system to the bold, space-inspired aesthetics.

At €2,700 (excluding VAT), the WorldTimer offers a level of horological creativity and mechanical sophistication rarely seen at this price point. For collectors and enthusiasts seeking something genuinely original, where world time is not just a complication, but an experience, the SpaceOne WorldTimer stands as a landmark achievement in contemporary watchmaking.
