The Arceau Jour de Casting, unveiled by Hermès, is a masterclass in horological artistry infused with charm, sophistication and a mischievous spirit. These limited creations are far from conventional, inviting collectors into a world in which canine elegance and whimsical expression meet expert craftsmanship.

The centrepiece of these watches is, unequivocally, the dial. Here, the House of Hermès embraces a playful homage to the animal world, rendered through miniature painting, wood marquetry, enamel and leather. Three unique dogs, Orson, Amy and Taco are brought to life not simply as decorative flourishes but as vivid, endearing portraits.

Orson emerges in black and white, his image constructed from wood marquetry with the precision of a fine puzzle. Eight distinct woods contribute to the nuanced depiction, with each element painted for expressive depth: muzzle, eyes, nose, tongue.

Amy, framed by her textured spectacles, finds form through the careful hands of an engraver and a painter; successive kiln firings reveal subtle shifts and hues that animate this lively character.

Taco bursts with personality, brought forth by miniature and cloisonné enamel work. Here, the cloisonné technique sees gold wires delineating the fur and collar, enriching the dial with remarkable relief effects and saturated shades. The dial’s artistry is further enhanced by genuine leather details and contrasting textures, a nod to Hermès’ storied expertise in leather craftsmanship.

At the heart of each Arceau Jour de Casting beats the Manufacture Hermès H1912 movement. This mechanical self-winding calibre, particular to Hermès, is crafted in Switzerland and boasts a diameter of 23.9 mm and a slender profile at 3.7 mm thickness. It offers a robust power reserve of 50 hours and operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 4 Hz. Delivering the essentials – hours and minutes, it maintains the purity of time while providing the reliability and precision sought by aficionados of fine watchmaking.

Hermès expresses its equestrian legacy in the contours of the Arceau case, designed by Henri d’Origny in 1978. The 38 mm case is executed in white gold, its surface set with seventy-one diamonds. The stirrup-inspired asymmetrical lugs playfully reference the maison’s origins, while the crown, adorned with a rose-cut diamond, punctuates the case with sparkle. Both the sapphire crystal and case-back are treated for anti-glare, and the watch delivers a water resistance of 3 bar, adequate for safeguarding its artisanal treasures.

Each dial is harmonised with a Swift calfskin strap, coloured to complement the theme of the respective edition. The Orson is paired with noir, Amy with ambre, and Taco with bleu jean leather; every strap is a testament to Hermès’ mastery in finishing and material choice.

To encounter the Arceau Jour de Casting is to appreciate an object shaped by the touch of artisans, objects destined to become companions, transforming moments into singular, radiant experiences. Hermès approaches time not as a commodity to be measured but as a precious space for emotion and spontaneity. These watches do not seek to impose order; rather, they encourage recreation, reflection and a gentle playfulness.

The Arceau Jour de Casting is a collector’s ode to artistry, blending technical acumen with the lightness of the unexpected. In every detail, from the movement’s cadence to the dial’s narrative and the elegant embrace of the case and strap, the watch radiates Hermès’ vision for horology, a vision where every second is an invitation to pause, admire and delight.
