The Round Triple Mystery from Franck Muller is a timepiece that redefines the boundaries of mechanical artistry and visual intrigue. At its core, the watch is a statement of defiance against conventional timekeeping, where the passage of hours, minutes, and seconds is rendered through a mesmerising ballet of rotating discs rather than traditional hands.

The movement powering the Round Triple Mystery is the MVD 2800-TMY, a bidirectional automatic calibre with a 42-hour power reserve. The movement is 26.2 mm in diameter and 5.35 mm thick, housing 217 components. The balance wheel oscillates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, ensuring precise timekeeping. The movement’s decoration is meticulous: bridges and the rotor plate are satin-brushed, the mainplate is perlage-finished, and the rotor board is bevelled. The sinks and bridge bevels are diamond-polished, while the bridges, rotor segment, bearing cage, and barrel cover are sunray-brushed. The wheels are circular satin-brushed, and the ratchets are snailed. Engraving is present on the bridges, mainplate, and rotor, adding a layer of artisanal detail.

The case is available in 18k rose gold or white gold, measuring 39 mm in diameter and 10.05 mm in thickness. The bezel is hand-set with either 120 brilliant-cut diamonds (3.90 carats) or, in the baguette-cut variant, 80 brilliant-cut and 48 baguette-cut diamonds (total 6.32 carats). The sapphire crystal is hand-polished, and the case is water-resistant to 30 metres. The dial is set with 237 brilliant-cut diamonds (1.96 carats), and the three triangular indexes are set with a diamond, emerald, and blue sapphire, each weighing 0.07 carats. The buckle is also set with eight brilliant-cut diamonds (0.06 carats).
The Franck Muller Round Triple Mystery is a narrative of invention and imagination. The technical challenges of integrating three rotating discs, each with its own gemstone indicator, have been met with precision engineering and a commitment to lightness. The seconds disc, crafted from aluminium, weighs just 0.052 grams, with the arrow indicator at 0.002 grams and the diamond at 0.003 grams. The skeletonised central pastille, at 0.047 grams, is a testament to the brand’s ability to balance mechanical complexity with aesthetic elegance. The Round Triple Mystery stands as a tribute to the spirit of invention, inviting the wearer to savour the mystery of time rather than solve it.
