Today I would like to present a pilot watch from Alpina – the PILOT Manufacture AUTOMATIC REGULATOR – a limited edition of 8888 pieces with a good price: 2460 CHF. For this price you will get an in-house movement, the AL-950, a 44 mm steel case with 10 atm water resistance, screw-in generously big crown, scratch resistant sapphire crystal and see-through back case. The strap is a hi-tech Cordura fabric – a nice appearance and good resistance (but still it’s recommended to wash the watch and bracelet with clean water after a “salty” adventure in the sea).
The grey camouflage dial is lovely: central minutes, a ten o’clock subdial for hours and a date dial at 6 o’clock. The layout is pleasant and the big luminescent Arabic numerals are, as you can think, easy to spot in the dark.
“The AL-950 Automatic Regulator was the first Alpina Manufacture calibre produced following our comeback. The calibre was developed entirely in-house by our own engineers; the parts were machined on our CNC devices and each watch was individually assembled by our team of skilled and dedicated horological artisans.” – Info from the Alpina calibres website.
What I would like for you to see is the quality and the number of finishes: on the mainplate and bridges – circular grain, Côtes de Genève, blued screws, black PVD rotor with Côtes de Genève, the Alpina logo and a shape reminding of the Bumper Rotor. The movement beats with 4 Hz and has 42 hours power reserve.
The watch can be purchased in the Online Shop or at selected retailers. An interesting free book from Alpina: Alpina – 130 Years of Watchmaking History is available here.
I would like to thank ALPINA for the information and pictures.
