On 24 October 1994, 25 years ago, Walter Lange and Günter Blümlein presented the first watch collection of A. Lange & Söhne’s new era. Launched at a gala event at the residential palace in Dresden, the four watch models – including LANGE 1 – combined traditional watchmaking artistry with technical innovation, setting new benchmarks and marking the dawn of a new era. The German brand presents a collection set for those who want the entire collection – 25th Anniversary editions of A. Lange & Söhne Set.
The off-centre division of the dial, the characteristic outsize date and the twin mainspring barrel with a power reserve of three days are what set the LANGE 1 apart to this very day. Its distinctive design and great popularity make the LANGE 1 a symbol of A. Lange & Söhne’s new beginning after an involuntary hiatus of over forty years.
Since 1994, only very slight changes have been made to the LANGE 1. Alongside minor adjustments to the dial, the second generation of the LANGE 1, launched in 2015, acquired the new manually wound calibre L121.1. It boasts a precisely jumping outsize-date display and a freely oscillating balance spring manufactured in-house, which, combined with large eccentric poising weights, ensures ultimate precision results. Lange’s dedication to developing its own watches is a reflection of Walter Lange’s guiding principle, to “never stand still”.
Various case diameters and additional functions such as a moon-phase display, second time zone or combination of a tourbillon and perpetual calendar add to the LANGE 1’s growing family of watches. In its anniversary year, 2019, the major milestones are now being honoured with a total of ten limited editions in white gold. They all have an argenté-coloured dial made of solid silver with deep-blue numbers, hour markers and date numbers, as well as a special engraving done by hand: the anniversary number “25” is shown in a characteristic outsize-date window, framed by a floral pattern. The engraved lines are blued, giving them an outstanding appearance. For collectors, there is a watch box with all ten models available, especially created to mark this occasion.
