Bereve Watches – Bereve Numbers, “Artistic Craft” category nomination for GPHG

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Bereve Watches is a small independent brand that I discovered with the occasion of the “Artistic Craft” nomination to the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. I got in contact with them and I would like to present you their official press release.

Bereve is an independent brand of Haute Horlogerie, which fosters all the values of the Swiss watchmaking art. The handcraft of the dials and the manufacturing of all the components reveal the high quality of its 100% Swiss Made timepieces.

The company has long experience in designing and making dials with the “Grand Feu” technique (including Champlevé, Coisonné, Plique Jour, Miniature).

Bereve combines different techniques, such as Micromosaic in spun enamel, with the most precious and unique decorative stones and minerals in the world. This fifty-year-old savoir-faire enabled the company to enhance its creativity and go beyond the limits of regular handcrafting techniques

A whole year and a half of research and fine-tuning to define, on a 37 mm diameter dial, the complex work of art known as “Numbers“, by master Ugo Nespolo, through the rare art of Enamel Grand Feu – Champlevé.

Bereve Timepieces’ master enamellers are proficient in this very rare technique and spend around 150 hours working on each individual dial.

It starts with a plate of pure gold (24k), on which a Master goldsmith engraver recreates manually, through the use of a burin, the complex web of the work “Numbers”, which consists of 132 cells.

Subsequently, the Master Enamellers of Bereve Timepieces apply, in thin layers, the “twenty colours” that create this magnificent work of art. This very delicate phase takes shape through a succession of about 14-18 firings at temperatures between 780-900 degrees Celsius.

This is an extremely rare type of work in modern watchmaking, created entirely by hand in Switzerland at the Bereve Timepieces workshops.

But the very high quality and uniqueness of this timepiece, Bereve Numbers 18k-4N Gold Enamel Grand Feu, is not only in the Enamel Grand Feu dial, but in all its various components.

The Maison collaborates with the most prestigious Swiss manufacturers in the sector, and equips its timepiece with a calibre of the highest level, the “Vaucher 3002”, made entirely in Switzerland, adapted by the house to the construction specifications of Bereve Timepieces, with luxury treatments for bridges and gears and oscillating weight in tungsten, which are admirable thanks to the sapphire caseback. The 18k-4N gold case has a diameter of 42 mm and is completely made in Switzerland, equipped with two anti-reflective sapphire crystals, and water resistance of 5 ATM.
