Chopard Happy Sport

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Born from the inventiveness of Caroline Scheufele, Co-President and Artistic Director of Chopard, the Chopard Happy Sport watch has been continuously propagating its free spirit and modernity through the watchmaking world since its creation in 1993. Today, the icon continues to distil its aura of happiness and Joie de Vivre through two new editions measuring 30 millimetres in diameter and dressed in red. The first, in ethical 18-carat rose gold, gives pride of place to jewellery crafts thanks to a generous diamond and ruby setting. The second combines stainless steel with ethical 18-carat rose gold for a flamboyant bi-material version. At their heart beats the Chopard 09.01-C movement, while their dial features the legendary dancing diamonds joined by three dancing rubies happily following the movements of the woman who wears them.

Rubies, a symbol of happiness

Happiness suits it. With its precious dancing gems, Happy Sport appears to transform the passing of time into an eternal race towards exhilaration and panache. It was thus entirely natural for Chopard to invite rubies to waltz with its traditional dancing diamonds on the dial of this watchmaking icon. These precious, timeless stones were chosen for their flamboyant red hue symbolising prosperity, joy and fulfilment. With a 30mm-diameter case size ensuring a perfect fit on a slender wrist, two new timepieces equipped with two dancing diamonds and three dancing rubies are thus joining the collection.

The first variation is made of ethically sourced 18-carat rose gold in line with Chopard’s commitment to promoting sustainable luxury. The sides of the case are entirely set with diamonds, while the crown, bezel and cabochons feature intense red rubies. The iridescent dial is in white textured mother-of-pearl – a noble material whose natural waves are reminiscent of its extraction from the heart of shells – featuring a centre adorned with a refined guilloché pattern and micro-setting.

The second watch of this happy duo opts for a casual chic look with a steel case combined with a bezel, crown and cabochons in polished ethical 18-carat rose gold. The crown is set with another ruby, echoing the dancing gems on the dial and the glossy red alligator leather strap fitted on these two new Happy Sport watches.

Faithful to its independence and its promise of mechanical precision, Chopard has equipped these two timepieces with its 09.01-C movement, produced in its watchmaking workshops and endowed with a 42-hour power reserve. Its exquisite finishing and curved oscillating weight may be admired through a transparent case-back.

Happy Sport, a new vision of time

In 1993, capturing the mood of the moment, Caroline Scheufele dreamed up a sports watch based on an original and surprising association between steel and diamonds. This unprecedented bold move marked the birth of the Happy Sport. Ever since, it has continuously celebrated a Joie de Vivre that women daily reinvent to conquer the world in which they wish to live and the person they aspire to become. It stages an entrancing show imbued with tireless creativity and in which the wearer herself plays a vital role, since it is her own movements that breathe life into the dancing diamonds and into the constantly recomposed tableau. The collection is a reflection of this fast-paced, vibrant life. Right from its beginnings, Happy Sport has lent itself to a perpetual flow of transformations, resulting in a profusion of models reflecting Chopard’s boundless creativity.
