What does it actually mean to be free and independent? To follow one’s purpose and to develop one’s potential means freedom, to play with unusual perspectives and to think in new dimensions as well.
People who are curious about the world and give purposeful shape to their lives often feel drawn to contemporary art, modern painting and innovative architecture. With its striking dome, the famous Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden is at once a source of creative impetus and a signature Dresden landmark. The new Glashütte Original PanoInverse – Limited Edition in platinum, limited to 25 pieces, was inspired by the Academy’s unique architecture.
A revelation of inner beauty
It has always been the ambition of true artists to open the human spirit to new points of view, to bring beauty to the eye and to touch the soul. The Dresden Academy of Fine Arts has dedicated itself to the cultivation of these values, and its distinctive dome, popularly known as the “lemon press”, dominates the skyline of the Saxon capital.
For over 10 years the Glashütte Original PanoInverse has been an integral part of our Pano collection. The new PanoInverse – Limited Edition in platinum is a very special interpretation of the original idea, which was to present the inner beauty of the movement on the dial side of the watch. To this end, numerous components that are normally visible only through the sapphire crystal case back were mounted in inverse order, and several components and assembly groups were newly developed.
An artful technique
The three-quarter plate, now visible on the dial side, has a fine guilloche pattern that takes up, in glass and steel, the characteristic relief-like pattern of the dome of the Academy of Fine Arts, lending the timepiece a futuristic look. Guilloche is a semi-mechanical engraving technique employed by Glashütte Original, in which traditional tools are used to engrave fine geometric lines in the dial or a plate. Depending on how the light falls on the surface, the resulting pattern shines in different ways.
Exquisite and unusual down to the smallest detail
The observer recognises the powerful elegance of this exceptional timepiece at first glance: screw-mounted gold chatons on the galvanic anthracite three-quarter plate with guilloche pattern, blued screws, an anthracite varnished dial, applied indexes and hands in white gold; an elegant power reserve display and the watchmaker’s signature duplex swan-neck fine adjustment. The latter is mounted on a balance bridge that is also finished in galvanic anthracite and appears to float in space. To the fascinated observer the oscillation of the underlying screw balance resembles a heart beating within the manufactory’s manual winding movement Calibre 66-09.
For the greatest precision
The swan-neck fine adjustment has been in use in Glashütte since 1888. To regulate the watch, one turns an adjustment screw on the swan-neck spring. It influences the balance spring via the regulator. Changing the position of the regulator changes the effective length of the balance spring and thus regulates the rate of the watch. The duplex swan-neck fine adjustment in an innovation introduced by Glashütte Original and extends the basic principle: the use of a second swan-neck spring optimises the insertion of the pallets in the escape wheel. Thus, on the right side one can regulate the rate (V/N) and on the left the anchor symmetry – enabling exceptional precision.
A true original, strictly limited
The case and the crown in platinum are perfectly polished and form a light contrast to the dark grey of the dial. The grey Louisiana alligator nubuck leather strap harmoniously rounds off the overall composition of this timepiece. This PanoInverse is limited to 25 pieces and will be available exclusively in Glashütte Original Boutiques from the end of August.
Every detail draws the eye closer to the exceptional, magisterial form of the watch and makes the observer aware just how much creativity, time and craftsmanship have gone into the making of this artful timepiece. The Glashütte Original PanoInverse was created for a unique and independent individual: like its owner, this watch is a true original.
