Introducing the Grand Seiko Spring Drive GMT SBGE248

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Grand Seiko is pleased to introduce a new Spring Drive GMT watch in its sports collection. The watch uses 18k yellow gold in the rotating bezel, which is the first for Grand Seiko, and the contrast between the yellow gold of the bezel and the blue of the indicator ring is a new colour scheme within the sport collection. With an independently adjustable hour hand, this Grand Seiko Spring Drive GMT SBGE248 watch is perfect for the international traveller, and the watch is made available worldwide from September, at an approximate suggested retail price of €12,500

The Spring Drive GMT calibre 9R66 has long been a Grand Seiko favourite but never before has it been presented in such a dramatic design.

Blue and gold interact on both the dial and bezel to create a watch that is perfect for the international traveller whether he is in the conference room or at the beach house.
Above the 44 mm case sits a rotating bezel with an 18k yellow gold ring over which the sapphire crystal extends, giving the watch extra protection and quietly powerful depth. The dual-curved sapphire has an anti-reflection coating both inside and out to deliver enhanced legibility. The case and bracelet of the Grand Seiko Spring Drive GMT SBGE248 are in stainless steel and the watch is 20 bar water-resistant.

The Spring Drive GMT calibre delivers a precision rate of one second per day and has a power reserve of 72 hours. The GMT hand can be adjusted to local time without stopping the movement so that the watch’s accuracy is maintained even when the time zone is changed.

In 2006, just two years after the completion of Caliber 9R65, Grand Seiko’s first 9R Spring Drive movement with GMT function, the Caliber 9R66, was unveiled. “GMT” stands for Greenwich Mean Time and uses a 24-hour hand (GMT hand) as the fourth hand on the watch dial in addition to the hour, minute and second hands.
