Serial innovator Roger Dubuis is a firm believer in living larger than life. The intrepid spirit and unleashed creativity embedded in its DNA repeatedly impels it to explore uncharted territories in multiple areas of aesthetic and technical research. The inevitable result of this no-holds-barred approach is a unique form of hyper horology expressed through daring timepieces – the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Blacklight Trilogy.
Raising the mechanical to art form status
Roger Dubuis thus instinctively and organically creates models designed for an exclusive tribe composed of those unafraid to stand out from the crowd. The kind of non-conformist visionaries looking for unique and aesthetically pleasing designs matched by a high degree of technical sophistication. It is with them in mind that the Maison is now presenting the Excalibur Blacklight Trilogy.
This singular new model features a particularly artistic new version of the iconic RD820SQ calibre, featuring a decor made possible by a technology used for the first time in the Haute Horlogerie industry. The fully integrated nature of the Manufacture Roger Dubuis indeed provides an exceptional capacity to cultivate beauty and an unparalleled flair for detail. The calibre takes on a whole new dimension by offering a mix of materials to display a unique and contemporary design. The outcome is a full-fledged mechanical objet d’art brimming with significant emotional content.
A unique glow
Within this fascinating construction, the signature Roger Dubuis ‘Astral Skeleton’ movement presents an innovative technology using micro-structures made of lab-grown sapphire identical to that used in watchmaking jewels. The aesthetic and creative dimension – which Roger Dubuis likes to refer to as ‘expressive singularity’ – displayed throughout the calibre gives the impression of a veritable 3D mechanical sculpture. A sensation reinforced by the inherent ability to glow under UV light, revealing the motif as it were floating in the case at night. In a final flourish of technology-enabled the skilled artisans of the Roger Dubuis ateliers allow the diamond at the centre of the Astral Skeleton to stand out in solitary splendour. This strategic effect further reinforces its taut lines and impressive visual depth generating multiple levels and angles.
The 42 mm Blacklight Trilogy comes in a 28-piece pink gold limited edition, accompanied by an 88-piece blue version with a white gold case and black alternative in DLC titanium. While all bear the prestigious Poinçon de Genève, the pink gold limited edition is the only iteration to be released as a boutique exclusive.
A decidedly 21st century opportunity for fans of the Maison to glow in the dark, as serial innovator Roger Dubuis once again vanquishes the blackness of the unknown in a shower of extravagant light.
