Mido is offering a new version of its Commander Shade timepiece that is as bold as it is captivating and treated entirely in black PVD for the very first time – Mido Commander Blue Shade. With this model, the Swiss watchmaking brand is once again showcasing one of its iconic watches, which has been in constant production for over half a century. The elegant round monocoque case with a streamlined design and the two-tone dial’s gradated finish in black and blue imbue the Commander Blue Shade with real character. The comfortable Milanese mesh bracelet in satin-finished steel, also treated in black PVD, gracefully encircles the most sophisticated of wrists. Beneath this retro exterior resides a latest-generation automatic movement: the Caliber 80, which offers precision and up to 80 hours of autonomy. In tribute to the vintage style of the legendary original Commander, this striking creation in mysterious hues will appeal to bold enthusiasts of vintage and timeless watches.

The distinction of its round steel case endows the Commander collection with an inimitable and immediately recognisable silhouette, just like the Eiffel Tower. And like this unique structure, it has withstood the effects of time to retain an eternally youthful aspect. Its exceptional longevity offers indisputable proof of its success – the Commander has been produced by Mido without interruption since 1959. It has thus spanned almost six decades, preserving the DNA that has forged its reputation. Much like Paris’s symbolic monument, the Commander has become a genuine icon, epitomising Swiss watchmaking tradition and expertise.

In 1959, Mido launched its very first Commander. Today, it is paying tribute to a now iconic collection. This new Commander Shade features a round sandblasted steel monocoque case with black PVD treatment, featuring refined, pure lines that offer a wide opening onto the dial. It is a superlatively elegant case that is protected by an acrylic crystal stamped with the Mido logo in the centre. With a diameter of 37 mm, this Commander Blue Shade reveals a strikingly unique dial that offers a smoked sunray satin-finished gradated effect in two tones – black and blue – for a truly captivating look. In a nod to the struts of the Eiffel Tower, the indexes are applied, polished and coated with black varnish. To ensure perfect legibility at night, the polished flange features twelve dots of Super-LumiNova®, which also adorns the flat diamond-cut hour and minute hands, while an aperture at 3 o’clock indicates the day and date. This bold Commander Shade model – entirely treated in black PVD for the very first time – remains a timeless classic, a perfect expression of the philosophy that has been written in Mido’s genes since 1918.

The Commander Blue Shade is equipped with the best technology currently available: the Caliber 80 automatic movement, which provides up to 80 hours of power reserve. Its case back is adorned with the original logo and it is water-resistant up to a pressure of 5 bar (50 m /165 ft). Extremely comfortable to wear, its Milanese mesh bracelet in satin-finished steel with black PVD finish and sliding clasp is like a second skin, conferring a high level of comfort and highlighting its vintage style, which is as modern today as ever.Mido Commander Blue Shade

Two other versions of the Commander Shade exist: in steel with a gradated black and silver dial, or in pink-gold PVD with a gradated taupe and silver dial.
