Panerai Luminor Marina Carbotech™ – 44 mm PAM01661

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Panerai redefines the style of the iconic Luminor Marina by combining original creativity with avant-garde materials.  Panerai continues its inexorable evolutionary process of experimentation with a striking new interpretation: the Luminor Marina Carbotech™ – 44 mm (PAM01661). This is an exciting creation in a year which marks the relaunch of the Luminor Marina collection.

The Luminor Marina Carbotech™ – 44 mm marks a decisive aesthetic change, confidently capitalising on the expressive potential created and nourished by a new, evocative language which is today the basis of its more widely recognised identity; a Carbotech™ case and a Sandwich™ dial with blue Super-LumiNova™ markings.

This latest Luminor Marina model overturns convention, in that for the first time the collection combines the high-performance composite material developed by Panerai’s Laboratorio di Idee and the iconic Sandwich dial with vibrant touches of blue. An intense and highly distinctive combination, a further testimonial to the unequalled LAB-ID™.

Remarkably tough but also surprisingly light with a weight of only 96 grams, the case of the watch owes its mechanical performance to the Carbotech™ from which it is moulded.

This is a cutting-edge composite, formed of superimposed layers of carbon fibre which are alternately aligned, then consolidated under pressure and controlled temperature with a binding matrix, based on PEEK (polyether Ether Ketone).  Highly resistant to external shocks and corrosion, it is recognizable for its aesthetic appearance, created by its irregular texture so that each piece has a unique character.

The watch has a well-known movement that is a prominent member of the Luminor Marina family: the P.9010 calibre, entirely designed and developed within the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel. This is a tested automatic movement just 6 mm thick, fitted with the function for rapidly setting the hour hand, a process which simultaneously adjusts the date. It has a power reserve of three days provided by a double spring barrel.

Water-resistant to 30 bar (a depth of about 300 metres), the new Luminor Marina Carbotech™ – 44 mm is supplied with a strap in Panerai SportechTM, a water-resistant rubber-like material, black with blue sewing. A second strap in black rubber completes the equipment, together with a special screwdriver for removing the buckle.

About Panerai

Founded in Florence in 1860 as a workshop, shop and school of watch-making, for many decades Panerai supplied the Italian Navy in general, and its specialist diving corps in particular, with precision instruments.

The designs developed by Panerai in that time, including the Luminor and Radiomir, were covered by the Military Secrets Act for many years and were launched on the international market only after the brand was acquired by the Richemont Group in 1997.

Today Panerai develops and crafts its movements and watches at its Neuchâtel manufacture. The latter are a seamless melding of Italian design flair and history with Swiss horological expertise. Panerai watches are sold across the world through an exclusive network of distributors and Panerai boutiques.
