Ressence unveils the TYPE 1 DX3, in collaboration with Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, a limited edition that fuses the intricate patterns of Arabic mosaics with the watchmaking art of cloisonné.
As the third and final chapter of a six-year partnership between the luxury retail group and the independent watchmaker, this watch upholds seamless continuation with the first two creations, while offering a distinct interpretation of Arab art.”
The TYPE 1 models serve as a common thread throughout this trilogy, where each watch features a dial adorned with a graphical pattern inspired by Arab Geometric Art. Additionally, a rose gold colour palette imparts these limited pieces with the hues of the desert.
“This trilogy demonstrates that at first sight different cultures and trades share a common and universal understanding of aesthetic balance” says Benoît Mintiens, Founder of Ressence. “The appreciation of rhythms, patterns or colour is a collective good beyond our origins.” On the association with Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, he adds: “We are extremely proud and thankful for the result generated by this beautiful and ambitious collaboration.”
Luminous Mosaic Composition
The logical arrangement of dial colours on the DX3 gradually unfolds, with darker shades emerging as we move away from the central sub-dials, creating visual complexity that further enhances the watch’s sense of rhythm. It is in the dark that the cloisonné design on the dial truly comes to life when the watch emits its gentle green glow, as it is filled with grade A Super-LumiNova®. This luminescent paint also adorns the numerals, like on all Ressence.
Essential Shape
The DX3 is crafted on the foundation of the T1° Round, the latest iteration of the Ressence TYPE 1, featuring the new pebble-looking case. The sleek design results in a strikingly smooth watch with a satisfying tactile quality, awakening senses.
Chronicled Craftsmanship
This final launch is accompanied by Ressence’s first book “Arts & Crafts in Motion,” limited to 200 copies. The publication offers insights into the genesis, craftsmanship, and fusion of Arab Geometric Art and Horological Decorative Art within the unique DX trilogy.
Limited to 35 pieces, the TYPE 1° DX3 will be on display at Dubai Watch Week from November 16th to 20th, 2023.

ABOUT RESSENCE
Founded in 2010 by industrial designer Benoît Mintiens, Ressence aims to redefine the essence of 21st Century watches. The brand’s philosophy follows the “Less is More” principle, by removing all unnecessary attributes that traditional watches have been revisiting for decades. Behind its minimalistic design, Ressence’s true purpose is to provoke wonder, to awaken senses and to make mechanical watches daily companions for today’s and tomorrow’s generations.
Benoît Mintiens started by introducing the ZERO SERIES, a completely new dial design concept in which time is represented on flush two-dimensional rotating discs. Traditional hands have been removed.
Time is displayed like words on paper. This design simplification continued with the TYPE 1, which eliminated the crown, resulting in a truly left-right watch. The award-winning TYPE 3 further pushed boundaries by filling the watch with oil, eliminating refraction from the glass, and reinforcing the two-dimensional aspect. Finally, the groundbreaking TYPE 2 introduced the world’s first automatic selfsetting crown, removing the need for manual adjustments.
Recognised with the 2013 Horological Revelation Award at the esteemed Grand Prix d’Horlogerie, Ressence stands out with its distinctive approach to the craft of contemporary Fine Watchmaking. By combining Swiss-made calibers with self-engineered innovations, Ressence reimagines how mechanical watches can function and interact with their owners in the modern age.
