Carl F. Bucherer is one of the brands that is actively involved in the sustainable future for the oceans. Their partnership with the Manta Trust is a successful relationship that started in 2013. We are celebrating today the brand and the important partnership with the review of one of my favourite piece, the Carl F. Bucherer Patravi ScubaTec Black. This review continues the series dedicated to Ocean World Day and the brands that are actively involved in taking care of the blue side of the Earth.
Focusing on the next generation, Carl F. Bucherer entered into its long-term partnership with the Manta Trust in 2013 and has been pleased to be able to help build solid foundations for a sustainable future for the oceans where manta rays thrive in healthy, diverse marine ecosystems. An extended resume of this partnership can be read here: Carl F. Bucherer and the Manta Trust sponsored projects.
Hands-on Carl F. Bucherer Patravi ScubaTec Black
The Carl F. Bucherer ScubaTec Black Manta Special Edition is dedicated to protecting the oceans and to the brand’s partnership with the Manta Trust organization. The watch presented today is a “simplified” version of this piece. With this in mind, the watch features a series of interesting elements to add attention to the black manta theme.
Black Manta, black case
The Patravi ScubaTec Black comes in a spectacular 44.6 mm titanium case. The metal was adorned with a black DLC coating. This finish gives an interesting note to the brushed and polished surfaces.
The case follows high-tech lines with curved lugs and screwed spring bars. The crown with double rows ribs is decorated with the Carl F. Bucherer logo. It is protected on each side by skeletonised titanium “walls” fixed with screws.
On the left side of the case is found the automatic helium release valve. Its construction follows the line encountered at the crown’s protection.
The case is fitted with a unidirectional rotating bezel – as requested by the rules. On the bezel was inserted a ceramic 60-minutes scale with luminous marker.
Black dial and fish scales
The dark theme of the case can be found also on the watch’s face. The black dial is rich decorated on its entire black sun-rayed surface with a fish-scale-like pattern. A very interesting approach that brings closer the maritime theme of this piece.
An outer printed register serves as a seconds’ and minutes indications. Also white printed are the name and logo of the brand on top of the dial, followed on the lower half by the name of the collection, chronometry certification and water resistance. The hour’s indices have a complex rounded construction with a fine brush on sides and filled with blue shinning luminescent.
The hands have a specific shape of the ScubaTec family. They are black lacquered and generously filled with tried-and-true luminous substance. A white delimited aperture reveals the date at the 3 o’clock position.
Carl F. Bucherer Patravi ScubaTec Black has excellent legibility. The charm of the dial is highlighted in these two main situations: in low light when the luminescent kicks out its full capabilities and in direct sun-light when the dial’s decorations are highlighted.
Made to last
The Patravi ScubaTec Black is made to last. This black beauty is powered by the automatic calibre CFB 1950.1. The movement is based on one of the classic ETA 2824 or Sellita SW200. That brings a robust construction, proved by time. The 4 Hz movement has an autonomy of 38 hours on a full wound. On the decoration side, I cannot express any pertinent opinion other that the movement is classically decorated and personalised by Carl F. Bucherer.
It is interesting to see that the piece presented today is covered by a screwed caseback nicely decorated with an engraved manta. Note that this particular design belongs to the Carl F. Bucherer Patravi ScubaTec Black Manta watch ref. 00.10632.28.33.99. The official presentation of the watch can be seen at the start of the article, including the official case back.
LOVE: for watches, for oceans, for mantas
I appreciate truly Carl F. Bucherer for their involvement in saving the mantas. Directly via the partnership with the Manta Trust Project or indirectly by selling these themed pieces. It is vital not only to support and help these initiatives but also to get involved ourselves. Why, because it is an indirect impact on our lives and future, of what we are going to eat in the future and what air we will bread. Course everything is connected in ways that we cannot comprehend. Think that that piece of plastic you are throwing irresponsible you might find it again on your plate at a later point (as an example: in the fish that you are eating). So it is mandatory to be responsible and to get involved.
Carl F. Bucherer Patravi ScubaTec Black is a very interesting black-themed watch with some nice surprises. In the sun, the light games are a nice spectacle, while the low light show reveals lovely shades of blue.
The wrist presence is nice and comfortable. I am used to 41mm divers (18.5mm / 7.2 “) but I found this almost 45mm wearing much smaller than expected. It is light and comfortable enough to be a reliable daily beater. I congratulate Carl F. Bucherer for the ScubaTec series and for their fight to save the oceans. Everything counts.
