FIVE by Yvan Monnet Genève

During the Geneva Watch Days, I had the pleasure to meet again with Yvan Monnet, the man behind the brand. In his atelier in central Geneva, I had the pleasure to see all three new models of the FIVE by Yvan Monnet Genève. The original collection was enriched with new colours: FIVE Spruce Green, FIVE Royal Blue and the FIVE Copper Brown

I am familiar with the FIVE concept since its beginings. The original pentagonal shaped case with clean dial is a lovely presence between the classical round or squared watches.

Before entering into the details of what makes the FIVE by Yvan Monnet Genève so interesting, let’s get aquinted with the green version, with the mention that the blue and copper version are identichaly built:

Penthagonal case

FIVE by Yvan Monnet Genève is manufactured in stainless steel. The three parts case is finished and assembled by hand.

The case is characterised by an overall polished finish. The face of the bezel is vertically brushed.

The caseback follows the lines and finishes of the case. The polished component is fixed with five screws.  The sportivness of the FIVE can be noted from the 200m water resistance.

FIVE is fitted with five star crown decorated with the brand logo. The complex shape is polished and represents a nice detail in the collection’s theme.

Vertical brushing and galvanic-coloured dials

One of the distinct elements of the collection is the brushed dial. Adorned with interesting colours obtained by galvanisation, the dials contributes once more to the originality of these watches.

FIVE by Yvan Monnet Genève

Yvan Monnet FIVE is adorned with applied volumetric SuperLuminova Arabic numerals.  The hour markers also are decorated with SuperLuminova bulets. The low light legibility is excelent with an interesting spectacle.

The sanblasted hands with SuperLuminova insert contributes to this amazing view. The seconds’ hand is laquered in blue on the FIVE Royal Blue and the FIVE Copper Brown, while the FIVE Spruce Green has an orange seconds’ hand.

The indexes are a combination of white baton minutes indiexes with smaller blue, respectively orange seconds indexes.

FIVE Spruce Green

The dial bears the name and the logo of the brand on the upper side. The bottom side bears the “Automatic” marking together with the water resistance. Interesting is the choice of the colour scheme – quite inspired.

Personalisation, from top to bottom

FIVE by Yvan Monnet Genève presents not only a beautiful face. Under the open caseback, can be seen the customised Sellita SW400 automatic movement.

FIVE by Yvan Monnet Genève

The robust movement was personalised with a bespoke rotor. The oscillating weight is skeletonised to bear the Yvan Monnet logo. Moreover, the rotor suffered from the same vertical brush finish and galvanisation.

Calibre SW400 is a robust movement with nice finishes, 38  hours of power reserve and a 4 Hz balance wheel. The coloured rotor weight brings a lot of character to the piece’s back view.

FIVE by Yvan Monnet Genève final considerations

The 43 x 42.1 mm steel case shaped as a penthagon, the coloured brushed dial with volumetric numerals is an original view. Yvan Monnet’ FIVE is definitively a cool wrist presence. The watch feels good on the wrist – light and comfortable. The quick release straps are well executed and contribute to the watch’s good wear. The straps included can transform FIVE into a sporty piece, with the rubber strap, or into a business, more serious watch with leather strap. But I have to admit that I love the rubber combination.

The copper/caramel dial is the most interesting, being an unusual colour for a dial’s face.

FIVE by Yvan Monnet Genève

FIVE by Yvan Monnet Genève starts from the 5700 Swiss Francs (taxes included). The price differences come from the galavanisation process. Some colours are harder to be reproduced and have an increased manufacturing cost. The FYVE have today and tomorrow the price reduced with 25%.
