Piaget Limelight Gala is at the thin line between a watch and a piece of jewellery. A gorgeous feminine line with roots in the 70’s, the Limelight Gala is now part of the brand’s permanent collection. Since the brand just launched new items in the Sunlight Jewellery Collection, I considered the best opportunity to present you two watches and assorted pieces. In review the Ref. G0A44160 and Ref. G0A44167.
Review Piaget Limelight Gala
Gala is a historic name for Piaget. The prominent collection bears the name of Gala Dali. Gala, born Elena Ivanovna Diakonova, was the wife of Salvador Dali. Instead of a surreal piece, the Gala watch presents a reverse symmetry and feminine line. Launched for the public in 1973, the Gala watch became a Piaget classic. The watch was reiterated in 2013 and is part of the Piaget’s current collection.
For a better understanding of the collection, I will present you Ref. G0A44160 with leather strap and the extravagant Ref. G0A44167 that bears the brand’s “Décor Palace” motif. As usual, the presentation videos comes first:

The 69 case
Piaget Limelight Gala is a jewellery piece with a classic design. The case measures 32mm in diameter. It is large enough to express beauty without being too large and risking falling into the preposterous side due too much of everything.
The case is lovely decorated with proportional brilliant-cut diamonds. The smallest dimension starts from the prolonged lugs and grows in size as they reach the centre.
To smooth the diamonds’ integration, the case received extra engraved decorations. The crown was also sublime integrated in the case. The crown bears the Piaget logo and fits perfectly in the overall design.
Positioned in a lower position, the crown is easily reachable. Setting the time imposes no issue.
My insinuation of 69 as the case name is purely personal and comes from the overlap of the 6’s and 9’s circles. How far you go with your imagination is strictly a personal taste. But let’s not forget the 70s’ were the decade of the sexual revolution. No, the sixties were more of a foreplay. Decadence and sexuality flourished in the 70s’. Maybe that is why we have such fabulous pieces coming from that era.
Gala’s strap and bracelet
When it comes to strap and/or bracelet, Piaget opted for two versions for Limelight Gala. The leather strap versions come with large variations of colours and materials. The Piaget Limelight Gala Ref. G0A44160 comes with a black alligator strap and a diamond-set ardillon buckle.
Piaget Limelight Gala Ref. G0A44167 bears a beautiful engraved decoration – “Décor Palace”. This decoration was used by the brand starting with the 1960s.
Piaget gifted some of the Gala bracelets with full diamond setting, including versions with full baguette pavement.
Dials and jewellery
The watches presented today have each a very distinct personality. Gala Ref. G0A44160 in white gold has a mother-of-pearl dial. The more spectacular Gala Ref. G0A44167 comes with a bold green malachite dial.
The beauty of mother-of-pearl is highlighted by daylight. And not only… Each spark of light that touches the dial creates a unique signature. Each piece is unique – property given by the mother-of-pearl features.
The malachite dial is bolder. The entire package of the Ref. G0A44167 needs a lady with strong personality. The watch must not overshine its wearer but just to emphasize something that already exists.
Piaget Limelight Gala Ref. G0A44160 will go perfectly with some of the Piaget’s new Sunlight Collection Jewellery. For a sparkling evening, I would choose Piaget Sunlight pendant Ref. G33R1300.
To complement the look to perfection, I would go further for the Piaget Sunlight earing Ref. G38R2900.
For the green malachite dial, a stronger appearance is mandatory.
For such a strong piece, a pendant will go great. But if the Extremely Piaget Pendant Ref. G33L2G00 in the above picture is too much, the brand has a smaller correspondent pendant, the Reference G33R1400.
For an even more subtle presence, that does not tend to overshadow the bold wrist piece, a more delicate necklace can be assorted – the Piaget Sunlight Ref. G37R0700.
The Piaget Sunlight Collection offers a large selection of jewellery. Of course, not mandatory to come accompanied by a Limelight Gala watch. For a glimpse of the Sunlight collection please visit the end of the article gallery. For more information, please visit the Piaget Website.
Beauty for beauty
Piaget Limelight Gala is a piece that inspires. It inspires a lady to reveal its beauty. It should inspire a gentleman to kiss the hand of a lady, with a small bow, in a sign of respect and chivalry. Must inspire a lover to kiss the back of the wrist of the loved one.
If one adds the Sunlight pieces to the entire look, the combination will spark envious looks from some, will inspire desire from others. Note that I didn’t use “women” or “men” in the previous sentence since the envy or desire are not characteristic to a specific gender.
Please have a look at the galleries for more images with the Limelight Gala watch and Sunlight Collection.
