Review: Sinn 6012 Rose Gold Anniversary

Sinn presented at Baselworld 2019 a special timepiece – the Sinn 6012 Rose Gold Anniversary. The watch is the anniversary of 1999 launched Frankfurt Financial District Watch 6000 series. Limited to 50 timepieces, the Sinn 6012 comes with moon phase, full calendar display and chronograph.

I had the pleasure to have the Sinn 6012 Rose Gold Anniversary in my hands during the Basel event. The watch’s lovely black and gold appearance is enriched by the SINN SZ06 in-house movement. For a first view, please have a look at the video below. The pictures suffer from harsh light and my own tiredness (my last day at Baselworld and 17 brands meetings – yes, seventeen in one day…)

Black and gold

The Sinn 6012 Rose Gold Anniversary is a beautiful combination of black and gold: a classic 41.5mm 18k gold case with a black sunburst dial.

The case presents an overall mirror polish. The lugs are relatively short with an interesting design, beautifully integrated into the case body. The tall bezel is straight and holds a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating.

The watch is covered on the back with a screw-in case back. On the pictures above and below, can be noticed the nice curvature of the lugs. The design permits a good wrist position, having smaller wear as expected.

The watch is fitted with a crown decorated with Sinn “S” logo. The grip is good and the time set and winding are easy.  The chronograph pushers have a protection that integrates nicely into the case’s design.

The dial has a sunburst brush. The black look is obtained by electroplating. Even if it is rich in details, the Sinn 6012’s dial is clean. The decorations are elegant.

The layout is split between the central hour hands (hour, minutes and chronograph’s seconds) and the three subdials (small seconds, chronograph’s 60 minutes counter with date/month and the chronograph’s hours counter with moon phase).

The day and the month are visible through two small apertures in the upper sub-dial. The white ink on black background fits the dial theme.

On the lower sub-dial is visible the moon phase complication. The German brand uses a real mother-of-pearl disk. Depending on the lighting conditions, the moon will offer a lovely spectacle. The date is displayed using a central hand pointing on the inclined inner bezel. Again, white ink on black.

The small seconds’ complication is delicately implemented at dial’s 9 o’clock with a small baton hand and printed indexes.

The hands are gold plated, excepting the date indication which is painted black and white-tipped. The hour and minute hands are treated with luminescent. For hour indexes, the Sinn 6012 uses applied golded indexes filled with SuperLuminova.

Specially designed in-house SINN SZ06 movement

With the SZ06 movement, Sinn has made an extra step. The brand prepared an in-house movement, especially for this anniversary piece. The movement combines a highly desirable set of complications, presenting a good looking, quite a traditional layout.

Visible through the caseback, the Sinn SZ06 exhibit a careful decoration with the classical finishes: stripes, brushing, perlage and polishing. The rotor received a gilded engraving featuring Frankfurt’s landscape.

The 4Hz Calibre SZ06 features the DIAPAL Technology – an oil-free Swiss lever escapement. This should increase the movement robustness and the watch’s accuracy in time. To assure the technical capabilities of the technology, Sinn offers a five years warranty.

Watch wrist presence and personal impressions

Sinn 6012 Rose Gold Anniversary represents an important milestone for the German brand. An interesting in-house movement packed in a cute gold case and a very good looking black dial. I must confess that I fell in love with the black dial with white accents. While I was not particularly impressed with the movement finishes, the overall watch design conquered me with its elegance and good taste. For 14950.00 €, one receives the Sinn 6012 in a nice case with a second leather strap, a strap change tool and a Sinn loupe. That denotes pride and confidence: pride for the brand’s achievements and confidence of its product. The watch is well designed and manufactured, but nothing less as expected from the Frankfurt originated brand.

The Sinn 6012 Rose Gold Anniversary fills well on the wrist. It has a smaller than expected wear due to its curved lugs. I somehow regret that I could not spend more time with it. It fulfils many expectations and adds some extras. The manufacture calibre, the clean design and smart appearance make from the Sinn 6012 Rose Gold Anniversary a lovely companion and a nice addition to any collector or enthusiast.
