Sometimes, the most subtle nuances can give a classic item a totally new appeal. In the case of the two new variants of the popular Augsburg and Aachen models, which Laco first presented at this year’s edition of Baselworld, a taupe-coloured watch face provides an amazing touch of refinement. This discreet up-to-the-minute colour with a slight tinge of brown gets its name from the mole, which in French is called “taupe”. Mole grey has always been a favourite with fashion designers, as this subtle nuance can be unobtrusively combined with virtually any style. For Augsburg Taupe and Aachen Taupe, the subtle hint of taupe is additionally set off by the delicate sunburst pattern. Altogether, these aspects create an extremely sporty and elegant look.

The numerals and hour markers, as well as the watch hands, stand out in gleaming white. The luminous substance Superluminova C1 with a blue line, for a refined after-glowing shade of blue, ensures easy readability at night and in poor light conditions. Apart from this, the watch faces of both new models assume the instrumental look of the company’s pilot watches, which are totally geared to intuitive readability. The Augsburg Taupe model follows the typical prototype A of the observation watch with hour, minute and centre second hands, while the Aachen Taupe represents the historic prototype B, with external minute markings, inner hour circle and centre second hands.

The 42 mm stainless steel case with the distinctive and grip crown assumes the rugged appearance of the classic Laco pilot watches. At the rear, the sapphire crystal base offers a clear view of the reliable clock generator of these three-hand watches: the automatic calibre Laco 21, which is based on the Miyota 821A. Unlike the standard version, the movement will be equipped with a second stop function for these two models. The progressive serial number is also engraved on the back. The watches are completed with a double-riveted brown leather watch strap, which further highlights the vintage charm with a modern touch.

Laco: Manufacture with passion and tradition

The German watch brand Laco, based in the black forest town Pforzheim, has a corporate history that stretches back to 1925. The “Golden City” has been the location for this small but long-established manufacturer from the very beginning.

This traditional company earned its fame by constructing the legendary 55 mm sized observation watch, as one of only five licensed firms in the 1940s. Around twenty years later, with more than 1200 employees, Laco was counted as one of Germany’s largest watch manufacturers. Today, the small team places emphasis again on handcraft. It is quality that counts in production, not quantity.
The products range from pilot and navy watches, through to elegant chronographs and the purist Classic Line. But all Laco models have one thing in common: the highest quality, outstanding design and functionality in use.

In addition to their own online shop, Laco also offers for sale at the factory in Pforzheim. From Monday to Friday, this offers an opportunity to pick up a new watch directly from where experienced watchmakers have manufactured it intricately by hand.
