Vulcain is well known for the cricket watches and especially as the presidents’ watches, with a nice history that can be better known reading this book online.
The watch that I would like to present to you today is the Vulcain Cloisonne The World, that was presented in 2007 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Cricket movement.
This watch is a limited edition of only 30 pieces in 18k white gold and 42 mm diameter case. The watch has a water resistance of 100m and comes with an alligator leather strap.
The dial is a beautiful enamel work with a silver coloured bezel that contains a world time with 24 cities around the world and it is adjustable by a screw-lock crown at 4 o’clock. For the hour indexes, small gold bullets were used and, in this way, time is easier read and the transition between the world time and the alarm outer dial to the enamel dial is more fluent.
The dial is done using the Cloisonné technic on a guilloche dial base and the result is spectacular. It is visible on the dial between 11 and 12 o’clock the “ENAMEL” handwritten inscription.
On the lower side of the dial, there are the “Swiss”, the number of the watch: “No xx/30” and the “Vulcain” name and logo.
The hands for the hours and minutes are luminescent stripped, the second’s hand has a luminescent dot and the alarm hand is red tipped. The cities names and the 1 to 24h alarm numerals are applied paint.
The calibre used in this watch is the Calibre Vulcain Cricket Manufacture V-13 – 12-lignes mechanical hand-wound alarm, it has 25 jewels, 165 components, double barrel with 20seconds alarm duration (the sound is effectively diffused by a double case-back acting as a resonance chamber) and 42 hours power reserve for a beating heart of 18000vph.
The movement is beautifully decorated: rhodium coating, and côtes de Genève motifs, thermally blued screws. It is equipped with the Exactomatic system, lift angle of 48° and has a diameter of 28.00 mm and a thickness of 5.60 mm.
