During my visit to the Girard-Perregaux Manufacture, I got the chance to see some of the novelties. Between them, the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Light. The watch is a new addition in the Laureato Absolute collection – first revealed at the 2019 Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie. Here are some information and pictures with the new timepiece.
Short presentation of the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Light
The new Laureato Absolute collection takes the key elements of the traditional Laureato watches and adds some new design features and ultra-modern technologies.
When is nothing left to hide
The sapphire case of the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Light has the romantic touch of the Laureato – the octagonal bezel based on a round plate.
The 44mm case combines sapphire and titanium in seamless integration. The construction permits the easy visualisation of all the elements. The octagonal shape of the bezel can be found at the movement’s mainplate. Moreover, these two elements are screwed together.
As you can notice, the view is spectacular. Note the excellent implementation of the integrated titanium lugs. The crown is another familiar encounter.
The caseback finalise the octagonal sandwich – eight highly polished screws keep everything in place.
The skeletonised movement is freely visible from top and bottom. There is no dial plate. For good legibility, the external NAC-treated ring serves as a chapter ring. Eleven raised elements and the Girard-Perregaux logo serve as hour markers.
The hands are familiar. The skeletonized with luminescent material insert hands can be found on the Laureato collection timepieces. It is one of the Laureato’s language elements. The small seconds’ indication, placed at 10 o’clock, is almost inobservable.
Calibre GP01800-1143
For the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Light was used an open-worked interpretation of the GP01800 movement. The movement structure and architecture is gorgeous. All the surfaces are highlighted by NAC treatment.
The rotor was skeletonised to maximise the view of and through the movement. The visible finishes are delightful.
A modern presentation
The Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Light has an integrated rubber strap. The deployant clasp has a micro-adjustment system permitting optimal comfort.
The watch is a bold appearance. The modern approach and the combination of materials used reveal all the details. A collector passionate about the latest technologies will appreciate fully the construction of the Laureato Absolute Light.
I am usually no fan of the rubber straps on this kind of timepieces. But I admit they go very well together. It is a good balance with the case and the visible mechanism. The watch is a great achievement – Girard-Perregaux implemented all the Laureato signature details into a hard to manufacture, ultra-tech piece. Exceptional!
