From turquoise to green-blue colour in swallow water. White foam from breaking waves blown in streaks along the direction of the wind. Imagine the look from below the water when the sun is shining through. Further down to the deepest sections of the ocean with its dark blue almost black colour. Water has some kind of powerful mystery about it. Inspired by the idea of capturing the charm of the ocean we have created a fascinating unique watch. In the centre of attention is a marvellous champlevé enamel dial in deep blue colour – Lang & Heyne Friedrich III Deep Blue Ocean Unique Piece.
The basis for this unique masterpiece was our model Lang & Heyne Friedrich with its Roman numerals. As great as the ocean as much space takes the deep blue enamel on this custom made dial. Scarcely any other material confers a dial of a fine watch into a persuasive and charming character.
Made with the champlevé technique, the surface is carved out to form pits in which enamel is fired, leaving the original metal exposed. The plate is of 18ct rose gold. Although made with an opaque dark blue enamel, in certain angles it gives an exceptional depth like sun shining through from above the water.
This simple sunk dial embraces a small seconds dial which is made with a very light grey colouring, representing the white foam from breaking waves.
Champlevé technique very briefly: Several processes of pickling and enamelling followed by grinding flat the whole dial. The deeper allocated second plate is manufactured separately and will be inserted into the main plate.
In analogy with the “ocean”, this special piece comes with a hunter back and a very exceptional engraving of a compass rose. With special attention to detail, fine lines are engraved into the material with tools already used centuries ago. These stunning engravings are only possible if done manually.
Other highlights are a custom engraving within the movement and a deep blue sapphire placed in the onion crown.
