In a bold move that challenges conventional norms, Maurice de Mauriac proudly introduces the Chrono Modern Big Date Deep Blue, a timepiece tailored for the robust arms of individuals like Samir Leuppi.
Swiss Wrestler, Samir Leuppi, the perfect wrist for a 48mm watch
Standing at an impressive 195 cm and weighing 145 kg, Samir Leuppi embodies the essence of power and vigor. His choice of wristwear? None other than the Chrono Modern Big Date Deep Blue: fondly dubbed the ‘beast’ among Maurice de Mauriac‘s collection of watches. With a diameter of 48 mm, this watch exudes an aura of strength and confidence, effortlessly complementing Samir Leuppi’s impressive stature.
To capture the essence of strength and authenticity embodied by Samir Leuppi and the Chrono Modern Big Date Deep Blue, Maurice de Mauriac ventured into the heart of Switzerland’s wrestling community. Amidst the intensity of the wrestling ring, the sawdust and sweat, Samir Leuppi’s presence loomed large, a testament to his commanding presence both as a wrestler and as a dedicated police officer. Swiss Wrestling, also known as “Schwingen”, is a traditional form of wrestling that has its roots in Switzerland.
Originating in the Alps, this sport dates back to the 13th century and is known for its hand-to-hand wrestling techniques, where competitors try to take down their opponents by throwing them to the ground and keeping their shoulders on the ground. One of the most distinctive features of “Schwingen” is the use of special canvas pants, called “Schwingerhosen”, which wrestlers wear to hold on to and try to control their opponents during the fight.
“What could be better than feeling a watch? Such a feeling defies description. We wanted to create something that would make people stop and say, ‘Wow, now that’s a watch!‘” says Massimo Dreifuss, “And I think we’ve nailed it with the Chrono Modern. It’s a perfect reflection of the brand.”
Designed by the late Daniel Dreifuss, the 051015 dial gives both watch and owner a subtle dynamism. The dimensions of these watches and their clear edges leave no doubt: a “Chrono Modern” always adorns a strong arm. Mechanically driven, of course, the “Chrono Modern” is modular in design and allows for unique customization since Maurice de Mauriac introduces a groundbreaking feature: the bezel. This unique innovation, with a brand own patent, allows aficionados to customize their timepiece with a serrated bezel. This was Samir’s vision and was inspired by the mountains, evoking a sense of ruggedness and adventure.
This “MDM BIG DATE” calibre made its debut in the brand’s 25th-anniversary watch, boasting a meticulously crafted movement that captivates with its beauty and complexity to meet the demands of watch aficionados, a watch for larger wrists.
