Panerai Submersible GMT PAM01495: DMLS Titanium Meets Skeletonised Depth

Panerai has just released the Submersible GMT PAM01495, and it is, without question, one of the most technically ambitious dive watches the brand has produced in recent years. A 47 mm skeletonised tool watch built from 3D-printed Grade 5 titanium, it pushes the Submersible DNA into genuinely new territory.

Architecture Over Decoration

There is no dial in the traditional sense here. The PAM01495 exposes the full architecture of the Panerai P.4001/S calibre directly to the wrist. Applied indexes sit on the rehaut rather than a dial plate, and that decision is deliberate: it keeps legibility intact without blocking the view of the movement underneath. Super-LumiNova® covers the hands and indexes, with the minute hand and bezel dots glowing in blue, and all other elements in green.

The orange GMT hand cuts through visually with purpose, chosen for its exceptional readability against water and sky, a direct reference to marine signalling and diving buoys. The patented polarised date at 3 o’clock is a neat technical solution: the date disc stays virtually invisible across the movement and only reveals the date through its aperture, so the open view of the mechanics remains completely unobstructed.

Calibre P.4001/S in Detail

The P.4001/S is the engine that makes this watch worth discussing seriously. Launched in 2021 after three years of development, it counts 341 components and holds two patents. The calibre beats at 28,800 vph, runs on two barrels for a 72-hour power reserve, and uses an off-centred tungsten micro-rotor that winds bidirectionally while sitting flush with the bridges, keeping the movement slim and maximising visual access to the skeletonised architecture. A Glucydur® balance, KIF Parechoc® anti-shock device, and a free-sprung regulating organ round out the technical specification.

The grid pattern cut into the movement bridges is a direct architectural reference to the military nets that historically secured vessels in harbours. Practically speaking, the seconds reset function allows the hand to snap back to zero on crown pull, enabling instant synchronisation with a reference signal, a feature inherited straight from Panerai‘s Italian Navy commissions. Power reserve monitoring moves to the case back via a sapphire circular indicator, keeping the open dial clean and focused entirely on timekeeping.

DMLS Titanium Pushed Further

Panerai filed its first DMLS titanium patent back in 2012, and the PAM01495 represents the fullest expression of that technology to date. The process builds the 47 mm case layer by layer from Grade 5 titanium powder, allowing internal cavities to form within the structure itself. The result is a case approximately 25% lighter than a standard titanium construction. The sandblasted surface finish reinforces the tool-watch character without any decorative flourish.

A titanium bezel carries a matte blue ceramic disc, scratch-resistant and sharp in contrast against the sandblasted metal. The crown-protecting bridge, a signature Submersible structural element, also receives a sandblasted titanium finish and secures the crown against accidental opening at depth. Water resistance reaches 50 bar, approximately 500 metres, which is a significant achievement for a skeleton movement and one Panerai validates through a multi-stage protocol: vacuum testing, pressure immersion at 125% of the rated depth, and a thermal moisture-detection test on every individual piece.

Verdict

The PAM01495 goes on sale exclusively through Panerai boutiques from May 2026, priced at 49.000 € /£42,100 / $50,300. It arrives in a deluxe blue cherry wood box with a blue rubber strap fitted, a second bi-material black strap, a screwdriver for buckle changes, and a sandblasted titanium trapezoidal buckle. For a watch that combines patented 3D-printed construction, a fully skeletonised in-house calibre with two active patents, and a certified 500-metre water resistance, the PAM01495 makes a genuinely coherent technical argument. This is Panerai doing what it does best: building instruments that inspire.
