105 St Sa UTC – The sporty watch with second time zone on a 24-hour basis.

A technical, sporty look complemented by a diverse range of functions: with this watch, we’ve managed to combine uncompromising function and high-quality design in a whole new way. It’s not only the reduced, contemporary form that wins over watch experts, but also the fact that the timepiece can be used as a versatile instrument.

Using the bidirectional rotating bezel with 24-hour ratcheting, you can set up a second time zone. As a result, adjusting the local time only takes a few seconds, without you having to adjust the orange UTC hand using the crown. Of course, you can also set the UTC hand in the conventional way using the crown and leave the rotating bezel in its initial position. The arrow-shaped UTC hand can also be used to roughly determine cardinal points, when the current position of the sun is visible. If you’re located in the northern hemisphere, position the dial horizontally and turn the watch so that the 12-hour hand (ignoring daylight savings time) points to the sun. The 24-hour hand then points to the north.

The rotating bezel itself has a captive connection to the bead-blasted case. Its Black Hard Coating on a TEGIMENT Technology basis lends the watch a professional overall look.

Red Dot CEO Professor Dr. Peter Zec on the laureates

The winners of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2021 were particularly impressive this year. The design of their products is excellent, in terms of both the aesthetic and the functionality. It’s not easy to prevail in such a strong field of competitors and to win over our jury. Consequently, I want to congratulate the laureates very sincerely on their success,” said Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of Red Dot.

Form follows function and purpose

For certified engineer Lothar Schmidt, who is also the owner of Sinn Spezialuhren, the award is confirmation that the principles on which the development and design of Sinn Spezialuhren timepieces are based hold true. ‘We are of the firm belief that form should always follow function when designing our watches and that each and every watch should be fit for purpose. It is therefore our great pleasure to receive such a renowned award the 105 St Sa UTC. This demonstrates once again that the outstanding design quality and uncompromising functionality of a SINN watch are mutually dependent rather than mutually exclusive. We will continue to stand by our fundamental belief in future, too,’ says Lothar Schmidt.

Unrivalled experience and expertise

The Red Dot Award: Product Design is one of the world’s largest design competitions. Designers and manufacturers from 60 nations entered around 6,500 products for the award in 2020. Ten products received awards in the category ‘Watches’. The experience and expertise of the international jury in assessing such products is unrivalled. The experts from various disciplines have been convening for more than 65 years in order to seek out the best designs. The assessment process, which spans several days, is based on two key criteria: the jurors test all entries in order to be able to assess them according to aesthetics, selected materials, workmanship, surface structure, ergonomics and functionality. Only after discussing each entry in detail is a decision reached regarding the design quality of the products. True to the motto ‘In search of good design and innovation’, their assessment focuses on criteria such as the level of innovation, functionality, formal quality, durability and ergonomics.
