Two lively new versions of the Glashütte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The seventh decade of the 20th century brought an unprecedented explosion of colour to fashion and design. The new versions of the Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date take inspiration not just from the decade’s colourful palette, but from its unique celebration of life as well. With the “Golden Bay” and “Ocean Breeze” editions, each limited to 100 pieces, Glashütte Original brings a touch of summer to the wrist every day. Irresistible Seventies style merges with the precise heartbeat of fine German watchmaking.

Free spirits and the call of far-away places

Paisley patterns, floral prints, batik colour gradients – the Seventies were crazy for colour. Loose clothing and embroidered tunics in vivid shades went into the backpack when people set out to discover the world. And there was plenty to experience, whether on the road in a painted van, soaring over the oceans in a plane or day-dreaming at a local swimming hole. The Glashütte Original team were inspired by the Seventies´ bright colours and longing for far-away places, and transformed their magic into two lively timepieces.

Of golden bays and gentle sea breezes

The strong colours of the Seventies appear with an international favourite of the Glashütte Original Vintage Collection: The Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date. As the name suggests, the German watchmaker found inspiration in the distinct design language of Seventies shapes. This year, two matt lacquered dial variants give this model a new look. “Golden Bay“ is a warm ochre tone evocative of far-flung beaches and sunny lagoons, while the light grey-blue “Ocean Breeze” conjures fresh, clear water and waves. The dark shade of the two subdials, in stark contrast to the coloured background, is perfectly complemented by the black hands and display discs of the 12-hour counter and Panorama Date. The resulting vibrant contrast underscores the independent spirit of the Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date – and that of the person wearing it.

Of rounded corners and a clear view

The streamlined case and gently rounded corners are the unmistakable signature of the Seventies line. The chronograph appears in a skilfully polished and satin-brushed 40 x 40 mm stainless steel case that fits every wrist. Sapphire crystals on the front and back ensure optimal views of the dial and movement.

The distinctive shape of the Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date finds a perfect complement in two strap options: matt black rubber and cool stainless steel.

On Glashütte’s sense of rhythm and love of detail

Ticking inside this elegant chronograph is Glashütte Original’s own Calibre 37-02 movement with automatic winding, crafted, decorated and regulated by hand in the watchmaker’s own workshops. The reliable driver of the hour, minute and small second displays, the Panorama Date and the flyback chronograph features up to 70 hours of power reserve. Its filigree components are finely finished in the traditional manner of Glashütte watchmaking: with bevelled and polished edges, polished and blued screws, and with bridges, balance cock and a skeletonised rotor decorated with the famous Glashütte stripe finish.
