With an illustrious history as an early purveyor of precision instruments to the Italian Royal Navy that are inextricably wedded to the sea and underwater exploration, it is no surprise that Panerai has a penchant for vessels with a historic legacy. The classic yacht Eilean, a masterpiece designed and constructed by renowned boat builder William Fife and restored by Panerai to its original grandeur, is among them. It was built in 1936, just before Panerai introduced a prototype of one of its most fabled creations: the Radiomir case, the first-ever developed by the Florentine watchmaker.
The Radiomir Eilean Experience Edition (PAM01244) celebrates two legends of the sea, Panerai and the Eilean, with a limited-edition watch available in only 50 pieces. Its purchase includes a Mediterranean journey that is a tribute to the Italian design lineage and maritime legacy that is fundamental to the Panerai universe.
The Radiomir Eilean Experience Edition merges Panerai aesthetic and technical codes with details inspired by (or taken directly from) the Eilean. Measuring 45mm, the bi-material case in patina steel and bronze is a direct descendent of the original Radiomir of the 1930s; a thinner profile is one of the features that distinguishes the contemporary version from its ancestor.
The bronze found on the bezel, crown and caseback are remnants of repurposed metal salvaged from the Eilean during its restoration. With time, each bronze element will develop unique patination that will be wholly dependent on the conditions it faces; each watch will pay tribute to the continuing legacy of Eilean even as they begin new journeys of their own.
Enclosed by a sapphire crystal that preserves the distinctive surface the vintage bronze develops without inhibiting its evolution, the caseback is emblazoned “Eilean 1936.”
The role of the Eilean as muse extends to the blue dial with the iconic Panerai sandwich structure; its textured surface resembles the boat’s teak deck. Engraved along the side of the case is the same dragon emblem visible on the bow of Eilean, while the whipstitching along the soft leather strap mimics nautical knots.
A brand of the Eilean logo appears on the strap at 6 o’clock.
Traces of Panerai design history are apparent in subtle details, like the divided hour hand, which resembles those found on the earliest Radiomir models. Though the luminous material found in the dial is now Super-LumiNova™ instead of the original Radiomir compound patented by Panerai, the numerals and indexes are a beige colour that glows green, as was the case almost a century ago.
Purchasers of the Panerai Radiomir Eilean Experience Edition (PAM01244) will gain a firsthand appreciation for the remarkable allure of the historic yacht through a journey aboard the boat along the cerulean Amalfi Coast. Sailing the Mediterranean on the Eilean while taking in the culinary and cultural delights that the region offers is the ultimate expression of the Italian seafaring lifestyle.
The adventure is the inaugural experience in a year that will be replete with many more. In 2022, Panerai will highlight the remarkable synergy between watches and the environments that inspire their creation.
Like the Radiomir models that preceded it, the Radiomir Eilean Experience Edition (PAM01244) features a manually wound movement.
The P.6000 caliber is water-resistant to 10 bar (about 100 meters), has a three-day power reserve and is manufactured in-house at the Panerai manufacture in Neuchâtel.
Panerai Sets Its Sights on the Next Generation of the Web
The watch brand of modern heroes introduces its entry into Web3 in partnership with Arianee
With their combination of strength and innovation, Panerai watches inspire their owners to choose the bold course and pursue uncharted territory. In keeping with that spirit of audacious exploration, the brand embraces novel technologies that extend compelling opportunities to its clients. To that end, an exclusive digital component unprecedented in the brand’s history will accompany every Panerai Experience Edition watch.
A collection of exclusive and limited NFTs, will be created with the introduction of the Radiomir Eilean Experience Edition, a limited-edition watch available in only 50 pieces. A 1936 classic yacht designed by renowned boat builder William Fife, Eilean was restored by Panerai to preserve its historic seafaring legacy. The 45mm watch unites the form of the 1930s Radiomir with bronze accents salvaged from the Eilean during its restoration, and Panerai will invite buyers on a journey aboard the boat along the Amalfi Coast.
Each purchaser will receive from Panerai one of the 50 Panerai Genesis NFTs associated with Radiomir Eilean watch in a unique cryptographic wallet allowing them to truly own this non fungible token. Buyers will find within this collectible an evolutive, one-of-a-kind artwork produced exclusively for Panerai by an NFT artist. The digital asset will unlock exclusive content directly related to the Panerai Experience Edition watches, and will evolve as the experience unfolds to reveal the art piece. Each NFT will be uniquely time stamped to reflect the specificities and uniqueness of each buyer’s experience and become a perfectly unique NFT blending art and experience. Starting from the Eilean Experience in June in the Amalfi Coast, sailing the Mediterranean on the historic yacht Eilean, this first of its kind use of NFTs by Panerai will define a new frontier in the possibilities offered by the technology. Owners of one of the Genesis NFTs, will have priority access to all future web3 initiatives from Panerai and will be invited to enjoy exclusive services, events and offerings from the brand. To guide the brand’s entrance into this revolutionary technology, Panerai has partnered with Arianee, the leading end-to-end web3 solution for brands. Arianee enabled Panerai’s web3 strategy and allows brands to tokenize, distribute and leverage value to transform their relationships with their communities in the decentralized internet.
“Panerai responds to the needs of the world’s most daring heroes, whether their journeys take them to the deepest reaches of the ocean or beyond the planet’s atmosphere,” says CEO Jean-Marc Pontroué. “Technology is the next frontier offering limitless potential, and Panerai is at the leading edge in that arena too. Through our blockchain digital wallet, and creation of our first NFTs, the brand will use dynamic new measures to respond to our customers and allow them to verify ownership of their treasured Panerai watches.”
This inaugural offering from Panerai represents the beginning of a deepening engagement in the world of Web3. In time, every Panerai watch will be issued with a Digital Passport, as a service to protect its valuable, singular identity, maintain an open line of communication with the brand and unlock benefits and services. Its utility will be manifold: these NFTs will provide definitive proof of ownership and deliver access to an enhanced client experience with benefits and services that begin immediately and unfold continually. For Panerai, the relationship with its clients begins with building ingenious watches that are companions for adventure and never ends.
