Carl F. Bucherer introduces the Manero Tourbillon Double Peripheral ‘Green Paradise’ and the Manero Minute Repeater in Titanium

The two watches – the Carl F. Bucherer Manero Tourbillon Double Peripheral ‘Green Paradise’ and the Carl F. Bucherer Manero Minute Repeater in Titanium – are designed with Dubai’s ultra-modern, urban lifestyle in mind. Juxtaposing contemporary styling with traditional craftsmanship, and unmistakable boldness with nuanced subtleties, they also reflect the character of Dubai itself. Both unique pieces can be seen at the five-day watch fair (runs from November 16 through November 20, 2023) in the iconic surrounds of The Gate in Dubai’s central financial district.

The styling of the two new watches represents the epitome of Carl F. Bucherer‘s Manero product family, combining contemporary aesthetic and material choices that embody the essence of life in the world’s most vibrant cities. In this respect, and by featuringthe Swiss watchmaker’s highest complications and expertise in Peripheral Technology, they expertly manifest the brand’s new maxim, ‘Exploring Time’ – a phrase which embodies both CFB’s 135-year heritage in watchmaking as well as its forward-looking, pioneering spirit.

Deep, opulent green

The Carl F. Bucherer Manero Tourbillon Double Peripheral ‘Green Paradise’ is a one-of-a-kind interpretation of a limited-edition watch in black released earlier in 2023. While it shares the fundamental characteristics of that earlier timepiece, the most obvious difference is its sunray dial finished in a deep, opulent green – deliberately chosen as a hue that resonates culturally throughout the Middle East – paired with a matching green, hand-stitched Louisiana alligator leather strap.

This verdant stage is set for a showstopping bezel, which contains 40 baguette-cut 3.9-carat tsavorites, sapphires and rubies. Naturally occurring and naturally colored, these gems have been arranged in a seamless rainbow formation that sweeps around the dial. On the dial itself are 11 additional baguette-cut tsavorites, sapphires and rubies (each 0.4 carat) that exactly color-match the corresponding gemstone on the bezel. Set against an 18-karat white gold case, this full spectrum of color makes a joyful, dramatic statement, yet when considered against the dark green of the dial and strap, the effect is somehow also subtle and intriguing.

Supreme accuracy born from technical intricacy

Beyond this powerful aesthetic, the piece is built around the Carl F. Bucherer CFB T3000 movement, designed and manufactured entirely in-house. As a ‘Double Peripheral’ it features two examples of Peripheral Technology. From the face of the watch, the eye is drawn to a tourbillon, at the 12 o’clock position, providing supreme accuracy – its peripheral mounting lends it its renowned ‘floating’ appearance. That complication is joined by an automatic winding system, powered by a peripherally mounted oscillating ring, visible through the sapphire case back, which never obstructs the view of the 18-karat white gold movement bridge. An engraving on the case back proudly proclaims its status: ‘UNIQUE PIECE 01/01’.

Echoing the symbolic power of Dubai’s skyline

The Manero Minute Repeater created for Dubai Watch Week sees the pinnacle of Carl F. Bucherer’s watchmaking finesse executed in a titanium case for the first time. Paired with an 18-karat white gold dial, which is finished in a grained pattern, and with rose gold hands and index marks, the overall effect is of a sleek and stylish yet understated appearance – one that avoids unnecessary flourishes or overly ornate finishes. 

As a ‘Triple Peripheral’, this watch not only features a peripherally mounted automatic winding system and ‘floating’ tourbillon but also features a peripherally mounted minute repeater regulator. This is the beating heart of one of the most astonishing achievements in horology: it controls miniature hammers that strike gongs to represent hours, quarter hours and minutes audibly. It is in this respect that the piece’s titanium case comes into its own: among all of CFB’s minute repeaters to date, this unique piece delivers a distinct tonality and resonance that sounds clearer and ‘brighter’ than any other ever attained.

CFB’s most resonant minute repeater

Entirely designed, developed and manufactured in-house, the movement that powers the watch – the Carl F. Bucherer CFB MR3000 caliber – took six years to develop, is comprised of 617 individual parts and takes our most-skilled watchmakers more than a week to assemble. Refining the titanium case also demanded additional R&D to ‘tune’ it perfectly, to ensure maximal resonance when the gongs are struck.

The polished and brushed finish of the titanium case shines all the brighter against a black, hybrid rubber strap featuring a quick release system and a DLC-coated folding clasp in titanium and stainless steel. In itself, the strap is discreetly minimalistic, though its ‘Milky Way’ finish brings subtle texture which perfectly complements the finish on the dial. Other details include an 18-karat gold peripherally mounted oscillating weight, which can be viewed through the sapphire case back. One final discoverable: between the timepiece’s gongs, an engraving of the word ‘UNIQUE’ captures its ultimate status.
