Reading Time: 4 minutes

2022 marks 20 years of Mido’s passion for architecture. The third creation of an anniversary series encompassing five models, the Ocean Star Inspired By Architecture reliably accompanies the most remarkable expeditions at sea, just like the monument that inspired it – the Europa Point Lighthouse, located in the Strait of Gibraltar. Mido Ocean Star – Inspired by Architecture 20th Anniversary Limited Edition Ref. M026.430.17.041.01 – the Europa Point Lighthouse is dressed in blue with hints of red – on its ‘velvet’ finish dial, fabric strap with red stitching and on the varnished tip of the seconds hand, in a clear reference to the lighthouse’s architecture – this unique, high-performance model evokes a bracing and exhilarating sea breeze. Each watch from the limited series of 1,841 timepieces – chosen to commemorate the year the monument engraved on its case back was built – is delivered in a special dedicated presentation box, accompanied by a medallion.

A monument on the wrist

Mido creates watches with aesthetics and mechanics that stand the test of time. It is therefore only natural that the brand chose to draw its inspiration from iconic architecture and buildings that also defy time. Created in 2002, the All Dial collection was the first to evoke one of ancient Rome’s most famous monuments in its design: the immense Colosseum amphitheatre. Ever since, the art of architecture has been written into the creative DNA of Mido and has influenced all of its collections. Just as the Europa Point Lighthouse acts as a landmark on the Mediterranean Sea, the high-performance, reliable Ocean Star also supports seafarers in their quests.

Ocean blue

In reference to the Ocean Star’s diving ancestry, a unidirectional rotating bezel with a blue aluminium ring tops the dial in a matching ‘velvet’ finish. The shape of the index at 12 o’clock, adorned with a touch of red, recalls the silhouette of the lighthouse which was built to guide men embarking on new maritime conquests. The Super-LumiNova® dot, meanwhile, evokes the light that safely guides them.

Particularly useful in day-to-day life, the day and date can be read off in an aperture at 3 o’clock. To ensure a flawless display, even underwater and at night, the bezel, indexes and hands are adorned with white Super-LumiNova®. The varnished red tip of the seconds hand, enables the wearer to accurately track how much time has elapsed. The same red has been chosen for the stitching adorning the blue fabric strap with rolled edges, in a subtle nod to the lighthouse’s characteristic red stripe.
