Girard-Perregaux Laureato Chronograph Lady was part of last year’s novelties. The brand revisited the ladies’ Laureato with a more interesting piece: a larger size with manufacture automatic movement, a gorgeous mother-of-pearl dial and a nice diamonds setting. I present you the Reference 81040D11A771-BB7B.
Hands-on review Girard-Perregaux Laureato Chronograph Lady
Some of you might have noticed a certain affinity for the Laureato collection. I talked about the history of Laureato several times. Here is a refreshment: Hands-on review Girard-Perregaux Laureato 42mm Ref. 81010-11-634-11A. I have an emotional link with Laureato. Different watches of the Laureato series are linked with my life in different places in space and time. I wrote my first review about the Laureato in the heart of Alto Toscana, Italy, just a few km away from the San Pellegrino village. A have made friends having Laureato in my hands. And all culminated with the fabulous last year’s vacation in Italy. Diana and I roamed Florence and the surrounding cities wearing a three hands and a chrono Laureato. There are some nice memories that Laureato collection created. The reviews can be found here: Three hands Part 1 and Part 2, Chrono Part 1 and Part 2.
The Laureato case – a Laureato signature
Girard-Perregaux Laureato Chronograph Lady comes in the signature case specific to its collection. Sized at 38mm, the case is 4mm smaller as the “men” counterpart. Those that followed the Laureato saga from last year, have noticed that Diana had no issues in wearing the “larger” 42mm case.
We find all the known elements: the combination of brushing surfaces with polished accents, the octagonal bezel on a circular base, the integrated bracelet with polished elements.
But the smaller, ladies oriented piece comes with a nice diamond setting on the face of the bezel. A total of 0.9 cts, 56 brilliant-cut diamonds adorn the bezel.
The Laureato Chronograph Lady keeps its sporty design with screwed-in crown and screwed-in chrono pushers. Using the chrono or winding the watch has a very familiar feeling. The watch uses Calibre GP03300-0135, a variation of the in-house GP3300, just like the 42mm version.
The back of the watch reveals a solid metal caseback fixed with 6 screws. Another similitude with the men version.
The Reference 81040D11A771-BB7B is fitted with a white alligator leather strap and a stainless steel triple folding clasp. The watch is comfortable and much lighter without the steel bracelet. Some of the women collectors might appreciate the reduced weight.
Sweet and precious
Laureato Chronograph Lady is adorned with a mother-of-pearl dial. The layout is similar to the 42mm version.
We can find the GP logo as 12 o’clock index accompanied by 8 diamonds as indexes. The dial has printed numeral and indexes. The date aperture seems to be larger as on the 42mm version but it is just an optical illusion created by the smaller overall size of the watch. Though, the baton hands are a bit shorter.
The mother-of-pearl dial will give each piece a sense of unicity. The dial creates joyful reflection. Even the colour will change depending on the source and angle of the light.
A GP mechanical hearth
Girard-Perregaux Laureato Chronograph Lady is powered by a variation of the brand’s GP3300 movement, respectively the calibre GP03300-0135. Even if the calibre is not visible, I have a good idea of how it looks like. The factory visit offered me a solid impression on the quality of the finishes. You can read the manufacture report here: Girard-Perregaux Manufacture tour, Logo change and the vision for the future – Part 1 and Girard-Perregaux Manufacture tour, Logo change and the vision for the future – Part 2.
The finishes include: Côtes de Genève, circular Côtes de Genève on the steel rotor weight, perlage on th emain plate, bevelling and gilded engravings. The 4Hz movement offers 46 hours of power reserve.
A delicate Laureato to satisfy a lady’s collector desire
Girard-Perregaux Laureato Chronograph Lady is a lovely addition to the collection. A more delicate and feminine piece that follows truly the more serious, masculine pieces is always welcome. But I am sure that a version without diamonds will be also well seen by the feminine market and not only. But diamonds have always been a girl’s best friend and most of the ladies have a thing for them.
The picture due no justice to this piece. How wonderful the dial is in the light can be seen in the video above since the picture did not capture the beauty of the mother-of-pearl.
